been thinking of getting a non-google email. anyone know a service thats good and that I can try out without fear of it becoming expensive/bad in the future?
Iâm changing if it works reliably, has (most of) its codebase open source, and can be trusted to not forward data from my emails to arbitrary buyers. Iâd be ok with paying a small fee for it if its really good!
Ideally Iâd setup my own email server, but that isnât a real possibility for me within the near future.
Iâve also realized that gmail is just kind if a mediocre product. The UI is clunky and the integration across account products, e.g. mail to calendar, sucks ass and canât be easily modified. This has been my experience with most monolith services, but its taken me a while to realize that I donât need them at all, as long as I can find a replacement host.
Looking for a way to manage a dynamic calendar across devices that isnât google calendar, too. Maybe that can be done with #obsidian?

Moreover, if #security is a matter of serious concern, keep in mind there is no miracle solution - choose and use this wisely.

As for the calendar, all decent email providers (except the encrypted ones, for technical reason) will provide CalDAV access to your calendars, allowing you to manage and synchronize them easily from multiple devices.
Finally, consider using your own domain name. This will allow you to switch to any email provider very easily and quickly in the future.

Hence, you've got to use their apps. Udslagsgivende argument over protonmail for mig er at de er underlagt tysk og europĂŠisk lovgivning og menneskerettigheder. Det er protonmail i Schweiz ikke, og proton fĂžlger schweiziske domstolsafgĂžrelser, se Wikipedia.
Tutas apps virker ikke sÄ modne, og ved ikke om de opfylder dine krav, men det er et acceptabelt tradeoff for mig, og appsene bliver gradvist bedre.
@maya I have been using the free plan on Tuta (previously Tutanota) for quite a while now, and I'm generally happy with it. Unlike Proton, Tuta is based in an EU country (Germany).
I have also been considering buying my own domain. Then I believe it should be possible to change email provider without changing ones email address. But I haven't gotten around to try it yet.
