Soon: Upgrading my first gen @frameworkcomputer 13.

When I'm done my laptop will have an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 96GB of RAM, 2TB NVME, a matte display and a bigger battery. It's my work horse.

Ordered the display and battery over a year ago but never got around to actually doing the swap. Now I'll finally take care of it alongside the CPU & mainboard upgrade.

The old mainboard I'll throw into a Coolermaster case, will allow for easier migration, quasi zero downtime (or so I hope).

Hello world from the freshly upgraded laptop!

The old mainboard now lives in a case and thus I still can use it for work stuff while slowly but steadily setting this one up.

Following my decades long naming scheme of "strong female characters in pop culture" this system's name is "mariner", after Beckett Mariner from Star Trek: Lower Decks.

@foosel
Did you get the TPU worky in some way?
@derjohn haven't yet looked into that yet, way more important stuff first
@foosel that's a really good naming scheme
@sandzwerg Past machines were draper, drummer, nagata, vin, arya and ripley
@foosel uhh I love it. I might need to steal that scheme
@foosel That's a really cool naming scheme!
I usually go for The Dark Crystal characters with currently "ordon", "shoni", "ydra", "aughra" and "deethra", but I fear I might run out of the cool ones at some point 😅
@foosel I just put Fedora on a laptop and a Surface here, they're working great. Now to get that last desktop migrated... 😬
@foosel @frameworkcomputer That’s one hell of an upgrade, I think you’ll have more RAM than every computer in my house combined
@lewis @frameworkcomputer As I will have to run some VMs on that thing, and plenty of browser tabs 😬, I figured I'll throw in everything it can take 😂
@foosel that amd base is nice :) would love a mini pc for my homelab with this but unfortunately out of my price range
@foosel @frameworkcomputer are the frame work boards expensive and do you think they could be used for a homelab cluster?
@foosel @frameworkcomputer sorry never mind just saw that it's not needed.

@foosel I am still waiting for that upcoming upgrade set* to be generally available ... my 11th gen intel framework13 has developed a weird slowness recently @frameworkcomputer

Framework

@oliof I decided to save some money and time... the Intel WiFi card still works fine with this one (AX210), and the RAM is less expensive at other shops too.

My 11th gen also felt slower and slower recently, so I'm quite happy about this upgrade. And the 61Wh battery in combo with this board so far also seems to work way better than the former combo.

@foosel @oliof you're making the right call on the ax210, I can't recall what it was but the amd wifi card I've got had some weirdness. It's patched out now but I do feel like one thing Intel does very well is networking stuff. That's all anecdotal though ymmv
@foosel @frameworkcomputer When I’m due a computer upgrade I want a Framework for sure. However the name of that AMD CPU is just silly.
