My bank app doesn't work anymore if I don't install #Google #playstore . I had been using it for nearly 2 years without issues with the app installed with #aurorastore . Now the only solution is to register a Google account on my smartphone and enable the Play store apparently. This bank doesn't have a web service, only an app is available to check your balance and do operations, so it's really annoying.
Has anyone faced something similar in the past or knows a workaround? Because now that I have Google on my phone I face other issues on top of privacy ones (like forcing me to use its security key system instead of my own #vaultwarden)...

@louischance which bank is it ?

Not exactly the same situation but with my bank (Crédit mutuel) some updates refuse to work because they somehow detect my phone is rooted. The only workaround I have is to never update it. I know it's not really the best practice security wise but I can't find anything better

@mmoneyron it's Green Got.
Yes it sounds like another issue, and not updating can create security risks, it's not ideal.
@louischance another option would be to keep a googled phone for banking and stuff like that. Not ideal depending on ones needs but we still need to find workarounds.
I plan do that anyway since I'm considering switching to #postmarketOS at some time
@mmoneyron it's not ideal indeed, and this is the only app I have trigerring an issue with #Google play store not being installed.
I'm thinking of switching to #eOS for my next phone (after it dies), but I'm afraid I'll have the same problem. I might send my bank a message to know what happened, it was working fine before, and I have no issue with my former bank app.
@louischance nothing is really ideal, we should just try to figure out what works best. I wish you good luck for all of that !
My fear is that more and more banking apps will require passing the google play integrity checks, to ensure a secure environment, thus requiring all google stuff. I think it's just a matter of time all banking apps do that unfortunately
