Tom SheppardWith recent updates to Firefox the venerable #1Password 7 has stopped autofilling and is a PITA to use. I really don't want to use version 8 because it keeps all the data on their servers. I've decided to try #Bitwarden and am self-hosting a #Vaultwarden server. I had Claude provide the migration code to preserve vaults, tags, and particularly attachments. It was painful to get working, but everything came across. Now I have to get used to BW.

Try this:
1. Log into the Vaultwarden admin panel
https://yourdomain/admin
Go to General Settings
Allow new signups → ON
Require email verification → OFF
Save.

I get why you like 1Password, but Bitwarden has some great advantages too. It's open-source and can be self-hosted for free using #Vaultwarden, which is great for organizations. Plus, it has a strong security track record with no major breaches. The free tier is also very robust. It's definitely worth considering if anyone is looking for an alternative to more comercial password managers.

patpro9 months ago I’ve installed a Vaultwarden server to prepare for the switch from 1password to a free and self-hosted alternative.
After a very long cohabitation, I’ve just finished the transition today: the 1password client is disabled, the bitwarden client is now my daily driver.
ChristianDann werde ich erst mal mit #Vaultwarden arbeiten.
Jetzt muss ich wohl auch zwischendrin mal meine Backups testen. Ist jetzt wichtig.

Strange strategy at the company also, family subscription is cancelled, account is closed, I shouldn't store login credentials in online databases anyway, I've used it for some insensitive data, now also switched it to local databases with sync in the home network. Less comfort, more secure. @1password
