After the #blackout in #Spain on Monday, a reporter interviewed a random guy at a train station about the impact of it on their travels

I wonder if he was traveling to Aragorn

Sorry, I mean Aragon

PS: Great shirt Viggo. #SlavaUkraini

(He grew up in Argentina and speaks fluent Spanish)

#Espana

@benroyce

Aragorn with a UA shirt 👍 😎

@FrancoisPrague he still doesn't like orcs 😆

@benroyce @FrancoisPrague well, the Z on the invading forced always reminded me of the white hand of Saruman.

Also, he speaks really good Spanish! The South-American pronouciation does sneak through a bit, though. For example, completely dropping the impure S ("ettaban" rather than "estaban"). 😃

@paraw @benroyce @FrancoisPrague

What does he say? My resident Spanish translator/speaker is at school today and won't be home till this afternoon.

@paraw @benroyce @FrancoisPrague he was raised in Argentina and Venezuela. he has a very strong acento argentino.

he’s like many people born in NYC but raised in another country. he has said numerous times in latinamerican media that, had it not been for his parents being born north of the border, he would call himself latinoamericano.

it made sense to me because HE STILL HAS AN ARGENTINO ACCENT IN ENGLISH but people think it’s a quirky danish thing he does. he doesnt even speak it.

@blogdiva @paraw @FrancoisPrague

Viggo is Latino with roots in Upstate NY who passes as European

@benroyce Also, his wife is a catalan actress (Ariadna Gil) :D
@Johns_priv @benroyce did they finally marry? i know she has been his compañera since they made Alatriste.
@benroyce I love how he is looking around wondering whether there's another secret camera, looking bewildered when the interview finishes and he wasn't acknowledged for the great actor that he is (not in a bad way, but you know what I mean)
@benroyce his domestic partner is also from Ethpain. she’s an actress and they worked together in a movie called "Alatriste".

@blogdiva

Aaaahhh

Now it makes more sense

Still refreshing to see such a celebrity just... taking a train

@benroyce

I've got to find a translation of this or have to wait till this afternoon when Child # 1 gets home from school and can translate for me.

@benroyce Slightly off-topic, but did anyone spot the woman in the background, who was somehow managing a HUUUUUGE backpack?

@benroyce
"I WAS IN THE BLACKOUT WITH 😍 VIGGO 😍 HOW ROMANTIC!!!"

— my wife, who, I'd like to point out, was also in the blackout with me

@benroyce
I have so much respect for this multi-talented and humble artist. He's one of my favourite actors. However, I think Boromir aka Sean Bean would be more fun to hang out with!

@ErinMC2

i have a soft spot for Viggo because his roots are not only Denmark and Argentina but also Watertown NY where I am in Upstate NY. Graduate of Watertown HS and St Lawrence University in Canton NY (he earned his degree in Spanish studies, surprise)

as you would surmise, all gossip of people encountering him here over the decades is he's just a regular humble guy. he visits less after his mom died but here Viggo is a few months ago showing up in the local press:

North Country Inspiration: A visit with Viggo

You may recognize actor Viggo Mortensen from his work in “Green Book, “Hidalgo,” “Captain Fantastic,” or, of course, the “Lord of the Rings” movies — among his many other roles.

@benroyce ❤️
I'm still crushing on him ... but in a low-key kinda way!
@benroyce He also seems to understand Catalan quite well (the reporter asks him a couple times in Catalan)

@benroyce

I'm well-aware of him being multilingual but it still always feels weird seeing him fluently speak in languages other than english. It feels like a dub or something.

@benroyce dang, actor that caliber traveling by train and support Ukraine 🤩

@peteriskrisjanis

He's the real deal. Humble guy with a good head on his shoulders. His fame is but an after thought, not the meaning of existence as it is for so many

@benroyce he just sets a peak we want other actors to reach. Spent his time acting but not hitting big, then when time came for right role and right movie, hit it so hard that left anyone without doubt. And have been hitting that level since then. Eastern Promises was a movie that convinced me he is good as he felt in LOTR.
Simply love that guy. Example to look for.

@peteriskrisjanis

i remember Viggo as Command Master Chief in "G.I. Jane", playing a cruel sadist

And with the best line in the whole movie

@benroyce When it comes to interviewing "random person who you should know is famous" incidents, it's tough to beat this one https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-31188264
Watch Tommy Lawrence's chance encounter with BBC reporter

A BBC reporter unwittingly asks former Liverpool goalkeeper Tommy Lawrence, who has died aged 77, for his memories from the derby game with Everton.

BBC News

@JonnyT

"Oh I remember. I played in it"

😂

@benroyce Priceless, isn't it.

@JonnyT

I like this one, and it flips the script

Hugh Jackman is being interviewed at an awards ceremony and then he breaks the topic and goes to the reporter:

"so I used to be your high school gym teacher and I am wondering how you are keeping up on your physical education"

(and Hugh remembers his student's name)

And then he chews the reporter out for not being properly motivated and prepared for gym class (in jest)

😂
