Alexandre is leaving our caucus but not our common struggle.

After 15 years as a champion for affordability, climate action, and workers’ rights in Ottawa, he’s taking the fight provincial, in a critical moment for Quebec.

We wish you well, Alex. We’ll miss you in the House but we’ll see you in the streets!

Where is the working class in this economic update? Not invited to the bankers’ banquet.

Avi Lewis: "Look at the beginning of this document and all of the bankers at the banquet who are the private sector economists on whose forecasts everything is built. Where are the trade unions... where are the representatives of working-class people?"

PM Carney seems ready to suspend environmental regulation in Canada under the illusion that he can buy political peace with Danielle Smith (ie the oil industry).

Althia Raj: Mark Carney runs roughshod over the environment: ‘It’s worse than what Harper did’

The prime minister plans to make it easier to kill off endangered species and pollute waterways in the name of fast-tracking private-sector development projects, Althia Raj writes.

Deeply integrating our economy with the United States is what made Canada so vulnerable to Trump’s bullying in the first place.

This isn’t what Canadians voted for.

Canada open to ‘deeper integration’ with U.S. in some sectors, Carney says

Speaking to a room of progressive policy experts in Toronto Saturday, Prime Minister Mark Carney offered some insight into what Canada has offered up ahead of an official review of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) this summer.

1/ This announcement marks the Carney government’s official surrender to the oil and gas lobby.

By gutting carbon pricing to the point of irrelevance, it has dismantled the last federal climate measure standing. We now have a federal government that no longer even pretends to rein in big corporate polluters.

Carney, Smith reach energy agreement that could see pipeline construction start in 2027 | CBC News

The federal and Alberta governments have advanced a climate and energy agreement that could see construction on an oil pipeline to the West Coast start as early as September 2027.

2/ Meanwhile, renewables met 100% of global demand growth for electricity last year. The rest of the world is racing ahead on clean energy, building the economy of the future. The Liberal government is taking us backwards, locking us into more pipelines, more fossil fuel dependence, and more handouts for some of the richest corporations on earth.

An industry expected to make $90 billion in profits this year alone does not need more gifts from the public.
3/ Yesterday’s release of the government’s so-called clean electricity strategy is a transparent attempt to distract from this latest capitulation to the fossil fuel industry – and it’s not even a ‘clean’ electricity strategy worthy of the name when it opens the door to more high-emission gas plants.
5/ The message to Canadians is crystal clear: the C-suite asks, and Ottawa delivers. If you're a powerful corporation, you go to the front of the line. If you’re struggling to pay rent, feed your kids, or find a family doctor, you’re told to wait.

None of these giant changes make our country more secure, independent, or stable. None of them directly address the cost of living crisis. All of them promise corporate welfare for the billionaire class, and more hardship for the 99%.

Every #canadian needs to speak out against bill C-22. It would force tech companies to build surveillance backdoors into their products and will lead to a mass exodus of technology companies from Canada, not to mention the blocking of popular communications tools like Signal and Whatsapp

#Openmedia makes it really easy to speak out. They have a tool here https://action.openmedia.org/page/188754/action/1

Please boost and share to reach as many Canadians as possible

Stop the Surveillance State: Stop Bill C-22!

🚨 Bill C-22 forces every Canadian internet provider, messaging app & cloud service to build surveillance backdoors and store a year of your data. Foreign state hackers exploited similar legislation in the US. Shut the backdoor: https://openmedia.org/StopC22 #BillC22
