Everything Macron does here is calculated. It's the difference between leaving no tip and leaving a nickel as a tip—the latter is a no-ambiguity message, "This wasn't oversight, it was a deliberate choice"

And it's not just that Macron doesn't shake Trump's hand, it's that his hand moves to Zelenskyy's back after letting Trump hang in midair

The contrast between his admiration for one man and contempt for the other couldn't be clearer

No 'fuck you' can compete with a French fuck you

@kims Macron, the current leader of the free world.

I'm very much not a fan of his domestic politics, but damn it he's handling international relations well. President of the EU country with a permanent seat in the Security Council is a good position for him in these times.
@Gurre Same here, as a german. He is really good with this kind of stuff. Nevertheless I'm not sure how much is it "all talk and no action". Will he follow up these strong gestures with corresponding action?
I have a bit of doubt... too much ego and presenting himself a "strong man" in my opinion. Wish he'd proof me wrong.

@hope_n_beauty

I trust that the Charles de Gaulle legacy of an independent France combined with today's strong bond of EU will lead to the EU mounting a strong defense independently of the US in the next four years.

We'll have to see what happens if the US can shake off their authoritarian phase and if AOC and Sanders manage to mount a social democratic strong block within the government...???

If not Europe's bond grows tighter.

@Gurre @AinsleyLowbeer @kims

@silkester @Gurre @AinsleyLowbeer @kims Agree. And hope for the same...
