@VeroniqueB99 As an adult you need chemistry and physics to understand how to cook and creativity on how to create new recipes...TRUST ME ..GO TO SCHOOL GET AN EDUCATION OR BE STUPID ALL YOUR LIFE ðŸšĻðŸšĻðŸšĻðŸĪ”

@Lstn2urmama

Definitely (though I will have to disagree on the cooking part... I've known hundreds of people who cooked like Gods and could barely read... also I happen to think it's an art not a science)... 😉

@VeroniqueB99 it's BOTH & people who did not read learned by watching others do so ... as I did by watching my parents/ grandparents cooking/ assisting .. never learned via recipes till home economics in school and was added pleasure and re science ..I was terrible till an adult and could see the appropriate means and why's as to what doing so meant science...So there is many ways to doing so and new ones evolve still in time ...😉 knowledge is power ...

It's funny I had that very debate at a Thxgiving (well, Friendsgiving) table where everyone had brought dish and this (she happen to be) German lady was going on and on about how cooking was 100% chemistry yadda yadda... she had brought Brussel Sprouts and ðŸĪĒ they were literally uneatable. Super hard idk what she did... she was a Phd in Chemistry ðŸĪĢðŸĪĢðŸĪĢ
I didn't have the heart to tell her... ðŸĪĢ

@VeroniqueB99 some cooking things can be awful and am not one to have certain mixtures .. but have been proven wrong and had some very good ones of Brussels which I like plain or buttered .. but those burned and mixed with other things not so much or should say am more individualist if not in soups or casseroles...
@Lstn2urmama 👍 they can be tricky... perfect example of 'my grand mother taught me to make them' in this case...
@VeroniqueB99 see where it happens in many ways 😉
You don't need to know the chemical synthesis of ethers to realize when you're being duped by rich assholes lying about climate change. The prevalance of wilfull ignorance is caused by unfettered propaganda, and totalitarian control of children. Not by lack of schooling. A kid could attend not one day of school in his young life and he won't be a flat earther as soon as you point out how ships go down over the horizon. But threaten him with hellfire and damnation, and tell him he's a piece of shit who doesn't deserve to judge things for himself, and he'll cling to the bible you shackled to him like it was a life preserver.
@VeroniqueB99 don't blame the kids, they're not the ones behind the war on education https://www.emptywheel.net/2024/11/22/a-farce-or-a-tragedy-or-perhaps-both/

Why Trump Won The making of the electorate Trump just won, and thusly the United States we have now, started decades ago in school. The Conservative Takeover of America was not secret, it was worse than secret; it was boring and bureaucratic. The conservatives worked slowly, patiently, and persistently to not merely change our institutions, [â€Ķ]

@VeroniqueB99 "History" would be another subject that seems to be largely dismissed out of hand...
@stitzl YES!! ðŸ’Ŋ 👍
@VeroniqueB99 You can teach anything you like. It's what the kids LEARN that makes the difference.

@VeroniqueB99

I worry that forcing high schoolers to take these courses when they don't want to makes them hate the subject matter. Later, when they need to use it, all they remember is how awful it was. Someone else comes along at that point and says, "It was all bullshit anyway. The government has dead aliens at Area 51. That's what's really going on." How hard is it to make that sale then?

@VeroniqueB99 The humanities can explain how we got here and how we get out of this mess
@VeroniqueB99
As adults: god, were we stupid in high school and college. I wonder how our teachers survived us.
@VeroniqueB99
When I was a teacher, long ago, my answer to questions like that was always, ''No-one knows what they might need to know in future so learn as much as you can about everything.'' Not sure how many took my advice ðŸĪ”
@capnthommo
@pthane @VeroniqueB99 yes. Sound practice. So many things I wish I'd known then that I'd need to know now. Did my best but still got it wrong too many times for comfort.
@VeroniqueB99 Use of the sciences are an everyday use ...cooking for one uses chemistry ND physics to get success in eating a nice meal or baking something ðŸĨ°ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹ðŸ˜‹

@Lstn2urmama ðŸĪĢðŸĪĢðŸĪĢI just had this huge argument with a person... that made that point when I was making the point that cooking wasn't science it was art....

Or she simply failed cuz her Brussel Sprouts were RAW and disgusting! ðŸĪĢ

@VeroniqueB99 cooking is both all depends upon ones objective ...
