Europe’s $24T breakup with Visa & Mastercard has begun. ECB’s Lagarde warns almost all EU card/mobile payments still run on non‑European rails, sending spending data outside the EU. Now EPI + EuroPA are launching Wero, a pan‑EU wallet for 130M users to pay cross‑border without US networks. A huge shift for payment sovereignty—and data privacy.

Europe vs Visa & Mastercard: The $24 Trillion Payments Shift

Europe is building its own payments system and reducing reliance on Visa and Mastercard. Here’s why the $24 trillion shift matters now.

European Business Magazine
I’m not arguing, I’m just explaining why I’m right.
"If it was real, they'd be talking about it on TV" is one of the most scary things I've heard in a while.
I really wish #signal would turn back into the everything messaging app it once was.
You installed Signal and used it with everyone, regardless of whether they also had Signal or not.
#sms isn't going away.
#rcs is more widespread now.
And I don't want to switch apps depending on who I'm talking to.

Samsung phones really are just a medium to push shovel ware 😠
"Updated successfully installed. See what new features your device has"
... no new features
“Would you like these slop games instead?"

You can't just click NO and instead have to unselect every fucking one of them individually.
Forgot one? Too bad, the download can't be canceled. Hope you've got unlimited data.

Well, fuck you too #samsung

@jbowen in my mindmap of usable non enshittified phones, (no Google, no Apple) Linux phones are not an option yet for the avarage user.
I use murena, which is a nice alternative.

I recently had to install #Windows98 for a legacy application.
It's surprising how much has changed and even more how much has stayed the same.

With libVirt and #kvm, at least it's now #AlmaLinux under the hood.

Why is the European Payments Initiative pushed forward so sluggishly?
And #wero is still just available in Belgium, France and Germany.
At least one of my banks, #revolut yay, is already a principal member of the #epi, but it's moving too slowly!
Get on with it, #europe!

Serious question regarding the UK's Safety Act:
Why don't they tell ISPs to block all devices until they are registered to an adult?
This way not every website needs to implement age verification mechanisms that leak more than a sieve.
Easier to implement and check for data privacy compliance.

Mind you, I'm not advocating for this, but putting the burden on everyone else is not just dumb, but malicious.

I still can't get over the fact we allow Smartphones, the tiny PC we carry around everywhere, to be controlled by someone else.

Sure, you could take back some of that control, but
Apple will straight up sue you for jailbreaking their devices
while Android works mostly fine, except for banking or other ID related apps that we are forced to use for basic services nowadays.

Why is this okay?
I'm calling bullshit on "for our own safety".
