When they say “depoliticize the classroom” what they mean is “stop teaching things I don’t believe.”
@Daojoan so, more accurately: "politicize the classroom”.
@marjolica @Daojoan "YOUR beliefs are political whereas MINE are just the way the world is"
@Daojoan Yes and I take an even darker view: some (prob. most) of them mean "stop teaching things we do believe are true, but we don't want those facts available to the minds we're trying to mold into the blunt tools we need."

@Nonya_Bidniss @Daojoan

I do not see any false insights here. This is how it works, the winner writes the history.

@Daojoan I don't even bother listening to Republicans anymore. The things they say don't have any value because they themselves don't actually believe any of it. They've decided to instead use words as weapons.

For example: politicizing the school. They don't want that? Really? So forcing Christianity into the curriculum isn't political. Nor is insisting black history not be taught. Nor is insisting transgender topics are not covered during sex education. Yeah, sure.

@Daojoan Don't bother pointing any of this out to them either. They'll just say, "You mad, libtard?"
@Daojoan Agreed and they don't want an educated populace because they can see Trump and what he is before he gains power
@Daojoan ... things I don't believe, things I don't want to acknowledge, admit, take responsibility for, or chance having to pay or otherwise compensate for.
🇺🇸 Nothing is apolitical. History, literature, science – all shaped by politics. But who are ‘they’ pushing for this depoliticization? It’s a conveniently vague term, shielding a diverse group: political figures, some parents, school boards, and advocacy groups – all seemingly wanting to dictate what gets taught.

@Daojoan telling kids to be kind to each other or to share resources is political now.

Except in most schools, the reality is we're just carrying on doing what we do.

@Daojoan

When they say "no more ideological capture of education" what they mean is "free inquiry is ruinous to my grift."

@Daojoan i think it's more. "Stop teaching things that will prove me wrong and allow people to challenge the lies I peddle."
@Daojoan no politics, only "Christianity"
@Daojoan Almost. It's "stop teaching things I don't LIKE".
@Daojoan What they mean is 'stop teaching facts'. It's not belief, it's truth vs fiction. Let's not let them off the hook with such an easy excuse. They can't handle the truth.
@Daojoan stop teaching things that could make my kleptocracy more difficult to execute
@Daojoan I remember as a kid being told all these specific incidents: riots, uprisings, lynchings, forced marches, scandals, and a laundry list of court cases. Not once were any of them addressed with even as much as a "We don't do that anymore" wave of the hand. I feel cheated that we didn't have some kind of discussion or debate around any of them. Sure, some situations were impossible, so someone was going to suffer. But those lessons went unlearned, and we suffer them again.
