Shouldn't post this, will likely delete later. Got my not-typical brain formally assessed but the NP said because it's complicated she's not qualified to offer any help.

Not remotely surprised, tbh. It's the theme of a lifetime.

The system here is beyond broken, so finding someone who can tease everything apart and offer real, thoughtful, minimally biased support is next to zero.

I really wish I wasn't dealing with this in the horror show of 2025.

Meanwhile, a living must be made, because there's a cat who is absolutely everything.

@StaceyCornelius I’m so sorry you’re not getting the support you should be getting. That sucks.
@jeridansky Thanks Jeri. This was mostly a confirmation, but I was really hoping she'd be able to offer some help.
@StaceyCornelius Sending a hug, for what it's worth. Support from friends would help a little, if you have some real life ones. Otherwise, we are here.
@elliek Thanks Ellie. Circumstances pretty much fried my real-life contacts. So I appreciate this a lot.
@StaceyCornelius the lack of resources for neurodivergent adults is so frustrating! I got my diagnosis as a kid but didn’t get the proper resources to build proper habits and routines. Now as an adult I feel like I need to reevaluate the way I approach a lot of things while still having to be “productive”. Everything I look up online is geared towards children even though we all grow up and still need to deal with these challenges.

@masonbergman Exactly. I did much better as a twice-exceptional kid because there was structure with built-in routines. I still got sick a lot because of the incessant grind, but I made it through.

But as an adult, "structure" and "productivity" looks different.

Finding a coach is great for people with buckets of money, but if you don't enjoy that kind of privilege it's tough. Capitalism is a total nightmare.

@StaceyCornelius so true! I talked to my previous doctor about doing some additional diagnostic testing and it was going to be close to $8K! Like if I had that kind of money laying around I’d be using it for supports already. We need real universal healthcare that includes comprehensive mental and neuro. We shouldn’t have to struggle this much to just get by while being held to neurotypical standards.

@masonbergman It's a total mess here too. I was able to minimize the cost through Beyond ADHD, but in the end there wasn't any support available. Too complicated.

"Find a psychiatrist." Okay sure, no problem, I have a ton of time and energy to spare.

Capitalism. Woo.

@StaceyCornelius i went through 2 social workers before i found my autism specialist pyschologist

bonus that he is on the younger side so doesn’t have the baggage of the prior few decades

but in general, as i look around in my neck of the words, all the resources are for children or people with higher support needs

there is a serious gap and at least int he US, only going to get worse under the current regime

@filmfreak75 It's much the same here. "You can contact the provincial organization but they really only deal with children..."

Can't work your way out of burnout, can't survive without work. It's a gong show.

Glad you found someone good!

@StaceyCornelius i had my 2 year long burn out before i was diagnosed so it was a weird experience

and what was worse, the job was the primary contributor to it

@filmfreak75 I feel that in a major way. I've burned out more than once. In the past I was able to get the rest I needed without the worry of keeping a roof over my head.

Sometimes having an interest-based nervous system is no fun at all.

@StaceyCornelius why shouldn’t you post this? I think a lot of us can relate.
@giflian Borg assimilation hangover I guess đź«
