All 550 of VOA’s contract status reporters, editors, videographers, engineers and techs just notified they’re terminated effective end of this month. We don’t distinguish internally between them and regular staff — all are highly skilled and absolutely critical to the operation.
@w7voa Such vandalism by your current administration. I hope the USA will ever manage to recover from this.
@derickr @w7voa I hope that we DO recover from this once we get the Orange Nazi out of office.

@w7voa

This can only mean they are shutting VOA down completely? 😬

@w7voa This is all so chilling in so many ways.

@w7voa

I first heard VOA on shortwave as a pre-teen in the 1950s. Still an invaluable source. What an utter farce Trump is.

@w7voa very sad to see this.
Is it possible, or even legal, for the affected employees to form their own independent media network?

@w7voa
The American people voted for this. All of this.
@w7voa I'm so sorry your org is being gutted!
@w7voa It's all propaganda anyway, no great loss.
@uncleslacky @w7voa I agree - VOA (and it's sister broadcasters) is propaganda, but surely it's better to have *all* the opposing views available than hear just one source of propaganda, however much we may disagree with those views?
You only need to look at the history of cold war broadcasting to understand how inportant the opposing views were to the world - and that hasn't changed, in fact it's becoming more important.
@w7voa With #voa shuttered, who will be left? Please don’t make me laugh and say #bbc. Truly entering the new dark ages.
@w7voa If Russia had conquered us militarily and goose-stepped their way into DC on 1/20, how would the first 60 days of the new regime have been any different from this?

@michaelvcooper1 @w7voa

More radioactive, less embarrassing./gen

@w7voa please give them our thanks. How do we keep track of the #VOA diaspora? There will be some amazing creativity come out of this crackpot breaking everything up.
