I'm so old the transistor and I share a birth date. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

What's left of the beloved local TV station still bouncing around between corporations.

"An NBN employee... admitted staff were a bit worried moving forward. β€œI guess that’s natural when these things happen, there’s always trepidation. Topics such as centralisation and cost-cutting rear their head. NBN is synonymous with Newcastle, so we hope it continues in that vein.” "

Nine Entertainment shareholders have this week overwhelmingly approved the sale of NBN Television to the WIN Television network.

β€œWhen Royko writes a column here, it goes all over the world,” Mr. Sianis told The Rockford Register Star of Illinois in 1981. β€œA few weeks ago, a girl from Australia was in who said she saw a Royko column about Billy Goat’s and had to stop by.”

A story for old reporters. This is the America I like.
-------------------------------------
"Millions of Americans knew of Mr. Sianis and his bar without ever crossing Chicago city limits, thanks to one of its most famous regulars, the syndicated columnist Mike Royko.

"Like any pilgrimage site, the Billy Goat β€” or the Goat, to regulars β€” is hard to reach, down two flights of stairs to a subterranean street below North Michigan Avenue. It was, however, conveniently across from the headquarters of The Chicago Tribune and a few blocks from several other dailies, making it popular with reporters, editors and pressmen.

"A dark, greasy-walled saloon, the Billy Goat is a true Chicago dive, open up to 20 hours a day to serve the newspapers’ shift workers. And for more than 50 years, regardless of the hour, visitors were likely to find Mr. Sianis tending bar or manning the small kitchen in back."

His dive bar became famous thanks to Mike Royko’s columns, a baseball curse and a β€œSaturday Night Live” skit.

I genuinely believe that the Fediverse offers the best chance of recapturing the friendly, optimistic Internet I loved as a kid.

We've got flaws, sure. I've been critical of aspects of fedi culture, and will continue to do so.

But this place represents hope, and hope is where we start.

The end goal of the oligarchs is genocide of the working poor.

I think this is an important point…

β€œAs goes CBS Radio News, so goes the idea that news media should serve the public interest
That the airwaves should be defined by more than a quest for profit was once a bipartisan view.”

When assembling your IKEA dog, please make sure that you follow the instructions carefully ...

Seems no consensus on exactly who says "When I'm king you'll be first against the wall." Based on the song's title, I'm declaring it #AI's manifesto.
