Americans on social media notice that other English speaking countries exist challenge

@purplepadma

well, a nice side effect!

Perhaps they'll learn that America is more than the US!

@purplepadma
I'm really going to enjoy being shit on collectively as a country for the indefinite future by the rest of the world. If my family could up and leave, we would.
@That_One_Guy This was just that two comments I have made in the last week have been met with a barrage of actually sympathetic replies, but with the assumption that I’m describing an American scenario. Even when I have used British terminology. It’s really annoying
@purplepadma In fairness to Americans, much of the rest of the world - certainly we here in Europe - really can't comprehend just how vast the USA really is, and just how much stuff there is in it. Most Americans don't travel abroad much, it's true. There's so much of their own country to go at, I can understand them not finding the time!
@hedders OK, I don’t buy that where social media is concerned, it’s pretty obvious that someone saying something in English online might be from anywhere. Assuming they must be American is just ridiculously insular
@purplepadma That is a fair point. I think a lot of US people do go on a bit of a learning curve on Fedi.
@hedders I posted about a disability issue and got SO many responses about who u should contact about non-compliance with the ADA. I even said that the building didn’t have a lift (rather than an elevator) but people apparently didn’t pick up on that
@purplepadma I can see how that would be irritating. I guess they meant well?
@hedders Yes, they were rallying to support us! I just got tired of saying, β€œWe’re not in the US” over and over

@purplepadma impossible. if we remember other countries exist, we will die

(therefore its important to remind us as often as possible so america collapses in on itself)
