@itsfoss not for me ... since arch linux i barely have to tinker around to get the system running after an update - on debian/ubuntu it happened almost every time a major update came that i had to reinstall the whole system ... is many years ago though, could be better now :-) for me, arch is usually absolutely stable - update, probably reboot due to core-updates, do work... 🙂

@Pixlar @itsfoss that happened to me in Fedora

I have never had a major update in Mint sov but it's really so so easy for many things

@itsfoss absolutely not true for me.
@itsfoss That's what I love about arch. Work is done on Debian
@itsfoss Just use Debian, bro.
@itsfoss I used Mint
I used Endeavour
I stayed with Endeavour.
@itsfoss
Both the left and right sides of the bus may be populated with many other examples, come on :D
And in the end both sides do serve a purpose, for different people.
It's the one-size-must-fit-them-all approach spoiling people, not an embarrassment of riches.
@itsfoss
Mint works fine for me but I did have tinker quite a lot to get the look and feel I need.
@itsfoss After chatting with someone who went into the deep end with Arch, I can confidently disagree with the idea of this image. I, for one, don't want to deal with Arch, but if you are technically inclined, tinker with software constantly, it seems to be a match made in heaven. I, for one, like the simplicity of Mint. So, I guess each option can make someone's day just a little happier. Let's just appreciate neither of them are using the M$ OS. Brothers in arms. 👏
@itsfoss only if the arch user doesn't know what he's doing.
@itsfoss Gave up on Arch because this was true 10 years ago (the wiki was and still is valuable for Thinkpad users). Mint has "just worked" for me ever since.
@itsfoss I think you can swap the people around and this still works

@itsfoss

Absolutely not! I am an arch user and I haven't needed to troubleshoot my computer for years now. I troubleshoot my ubuntu server after almost every update. Altough I've necer used Mint.

@itsfoss #archlinux gets way too much hate. It definitely can be a little more complicated to install initially, but it's a great distro and very stable. I haven't had issues in years and I never need to reinstall or do a huge dist-upgrade that breaks everything.

@itsfoss I used Arch as a daily driver and did "casual" things on it. I did run into issues more often but mostly it worked just fine.

Once my Linux tinkering hyperfixation wore off I installed EndeavourOS with the LTS kernel instead.

@itsfoss
Are you seriously trying to get cancelled?
@itsfoss Leave me alone. It is a lifestyle choice 🙃
@itsfoss
God i already flamed Arch users ķas a joke) on X following Pewdiepie installation of Arch, I shouldn't repost this one 😄
@itsfoss I've definitely been there, very true!
@itsfoss I installed Arch because it was the "final Linux boss" for me. I didn't expect to use it every day for normal activities, because I also heard that it is an unstable system. I also have Fedora and Windows. But it turned out that Arch is as stable as any other Linux... at least for now
@Pioter_K Arch can provide a stable experience if you set it all up correctly. 😄
@itsfoss Dear mastodon.social admins, kindly ban this account for speaking too much truth
@itsfoss Devs VS designers honestly
@itsfoss Not in my experience, @CachyOS / Arch Linux has been rather smooth quite honestly.
@itsfoss @chrishuck For many years I used the #Knoppix’s Live CDs for fixing/rescuing stuff from non-bootable/loaded with viruses/bloated, etc. Windows PCs (you probably guessed that I’m the “family IT guy”). When Knoppix updates stopped in 2021, I started looking for a replacement. Since I don’t have direct access to most of these PCs, I need something that is “plug-and-play” with minimum instructions via FaceTime/Skype, etc. (1/2)
So I tried Debian, Arch, Manjaro, Puppy, etc. etc., but all had some issues - either drivers were missing or weren’t working properly or not working all… Only Mint (🤞) fit the bill so far and I’m hoping that it will keep working well in the future! 🙂 (2/2)
@itsfoss Way better fun than playing video games :D
@itsfoss I've been using Manjaro for a few years now and it works great for me, no complaints!

@ScilentAssasin @itsfoss
Same for me, not any problems with Manjaro.

Personally, I think opposite of that picture.
My computer wife has Linux Mint installed. When I upgrade the system, it needs at least 2 hours.
On my computer, when I upgrade Manjaro, it takes 10-15 minutes.
