LibreWolf Browser

A custom version of Firefox, focused on privacy, security and freedom.

@librewolf Sorry very good initiative but couldn't help myself:
@librewolf hi there! Quick question, what’s the chance of an iOS app for Librewolf?

@jarno I have zero association with LibreWolf, but I imagine the likelihood would currently be low. There was a similar discussion about LibreWolf potentially picking up the Android Mull browser when development on that was halted, where it was noted that they would likely need somebody to step up to maintain an Android fork rather than the existing team taking an additional project.

This is probably even more true for iOS, since there's not even an existing project like Mull for LibreWolf to build from. An iOS fork would be an even bigger endeavor than continuing an established project, both because none exists currently and because iOS Firefox is fundamentally very different to the Android or desktop versions. It uses Apple's WebKit renderer, has no support for extensions, etc. Making a functional privacy fork without being able to leverage uBlock Origin, etc. would be an enormous effort.

@librewolf

Mull is dead, fast LibreWolf Android build possible?

On https://divestos.org/pages/news, Tavi has announced that Mull, the widely used Firefox with Arkenfox fork for Android, is discontinued. If at all possible, it would be of great value for many if LibreWolf were to pick up where Mull left off. Everything concerning the build process and th...

UPD: The issue has been on my side, the page is verified.

@hackercharity we already did that – doesn't librewolf.net show as verified for you in our profile?
@librewolf Sorry, you're right. Desktop shows as verified, but my mobile client doesn't. Probably some cache issue or smth. Not on your side.
@librewolf first banning Lunduke, now this, how much more based are you people willing to get?
@witix the sky's the limit - we'll do our best to get even more based whenever an opportunity should present itself ;)
@witix banning Lunduke?? based???? what'd I miss?
@cyrus @witix
Yeah I'm gonna need context lol. Who/what are we packwatching?
@[email protected] @cyrus Ok so I'm the type of person who learned who Lunduke is from a web search yesterday but uh, basically he's someone who blames everything wrong with Linux on "woke"
@librewolf could you add a link to the librewolf.net website to this account to confirm that it is managed by the LibreWolf team? thank you!
@h That should already be covered by the green checks in the profile :)
@librewolf ah, my mistake! my front-end didn't show those, so that flew by me. welcome to the fediverse!
@librewolf Hi, nice to see you!

@librewolf
"Disable built-in password manager and suggest more robust options."

Is this an option or built in requiring users to use other options ?

Also can Firefox profiles, bookmarks, etc be migrated to Librewolf ?

Is there any AI in Librewolf ?

@librewolf just for this I am going to switch my main browser from #Firefox to #LibreWolf

You really understand the importance of a free Internet! #opensource #freedom

@librewolf
You are wonderful.
No TechBro apps.
🥰
@librewolf Hello! It's good to see you on here!
@librewolf last OK browser, now on fediverse! Welcome
@librewolf hiiii i've been using and recommending you for like half a decade :>

@librewolf welcome to the Fediverse! Also continue making useful improvements to your browser, mozilla has failed us.
@librewolf
Mastodon'a hoşgeldiniz. Librewolf'u uzun süredir kullanıyorum ve memnunum. Türkiye'den selamlar

@librewolf

Welcome. Very nice you joined the Fediverse! Good decision.

I already was using Librewolf and Firefox hybrid. I will now switch fully to Librewolf.

Only one issue left though... any solution? 🤔

@librewolf a plus is @freeplay 's onebar works with librewolf which makes it better for the steamdeck

https://git.gay/freeplay/Firefox-Onebar#readme-Onebar

And it's lovely how things are opt in instead of opt out

freeplay/Firefox-Onebar

A single bar for Firefox's UI. <img src="https://nogithub.codeberg.page/badge.svg" alt="Please don't upload to GitHub">

@librewolf
My froods for the love of Jebus, please consider that your name and logo are the first elements of UX that someone will come across.

Unpronounceable, low contrast, and flat are not effective attractors of the humans who are the constituents of social change.

@JoshuaACNewman @librewolf I hate that you're right about this, and that I'm just as culpable in steering away from products with questionable UX design.

@JoshuaACNewman @librewolf how is it unpronounceable? Both libre and wolf are pronounceable english words.

Regarding the logo: Logo design is hard and expensive. If nobody offers to design a better logo for free, I doubt it will change. Small foss projects have limited resources. Prioritising work on the browser is a choice in the best interest of the users.

@joshix @librewolf
“Libre” isn’t an English word. I just had to correct autocorrect to make it recognize it. And it’s a silent e in the middle of the word, which we don’t do in English. And it’s also ambiguous — (Lee-ber? Lee-bra?).

Programming is also expensive, skilled work. But FOSS projects don’t turn away programmers like they turn away designers. Projects that welcome design are really notable for it.

…and you’re saying this to a graphic designer preparing a PR.

@JoshuaACNewman @librewolf libre is in english dictionaries, which is good enough for me
@librewolf thank you for all the good work you do.
@librewolf Why aren't you on fosstodon.org instance? I guess that would be more trustworthy
@nictakiego @librewolf what makes fosstodon more trustworthy?
@librewolf Thank you for recommending our browser extension :)
@librewolf would you please link to this social media account from your official web site? Otherwise there is no way to differentiate this account from a malicious actor

@librewolf I love the lack of telemetry... Except for push.services.mozilla.com

what is that, and why does librewolf ping that on browser start?

@librewolf As someone who does NOT do push notifications from any source via browser, this option should be in preferences, or turned on when a user first accepts push notifications via a site like slack or whatever.

The ONLY thing hitting the network on a new install is this outgoing ping / websocket to mozilla/google.

This is telemetry.

Consider disabling push

Following the topic https://old.reddit.com/r/LibreWolf/comments/15bgn04/librewolf_connecting_to_google/ I decided to have a look at this. Using Wireshark, I see that LibreWolf makes a DNS request for the domain **push.services.mozilla.com**, which leads to CNAME **autopush.prod.mozaws.net**, whi...

Codeberg.org

@librewolf Confirming, the browser makes no connections on startup when these options are set to false -

This should be OFF BY DEFAULT with the user preferences to allow websockets to mozilla's push services upon informed consent.

@librewolf Aside from this fiasco, I will be removing all of my firefox instances in favor of LibreWolf.

Compared to the amount of garbage mozilla is doing that needs to be disabled/neutered/blackholed, this is minor in comparison.

Thank you for this project.
