New Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last week ordered U.S. Cyber Command to stand down from all planning against Russia https://therecord.media/hegseth-orders-cyber-command-stand-down-russia-planning
Exclusive: Hegseth orders Cyber Command to stand down on Russia planning

The secretary of Defense has ordered U.S. Cyber Command to stand down from all planning against Russia, including offensive digital actions, sources tell Recorded Future News.

The Trump administration has publicly and privately signaled that it does not believe Russia represents a cyber threat against US national security or critical infrastructure. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/28/trump-russia-hacking-cyber-security
Trump administration retreats in fight against Russian cyber threats

Recent incidents indicate US is no longer characterizing Russia as a cybersecurity threat, marking a radical departure: ‘Putin is on the inside now’

The Guardian

This backs up what I've been seeing in the past week btw, in that US peeps have just... stopped talking about Russia. It's also visible on LinkedIn. Now, everything is just China Bad, we're in a war with China etc.

I do ponder if the US are going to try to realign Russia from being an ally of China towards being an ally of the US, and if the EU will realign away from the US.

Trump respects authoritarian hard men so it makes more sense for them to partner with Russia than partner with the EU.

Hegseth orders pause in offensive US cyber operations against Russia

The reported directive from the defence secretary comes during an American push to end the war in Ukraine.

BBC News

The quote they gave to the BBC is amazing:

> "There is no greater priority to Secretary Hegseth than the safety of the Warfighter in all operations, to include the cyber domain."

What does this even mean? lol

Did Trump Admin Order U.S. Cyber Command and CISA to Stand Down on Russia? (Story updated)

Two blockbuster stories published on Friday that appear to confirm what many Americans suspected would occur under the Trump administration – that the new regime is going to be softer on Russia than previous administrations, particularly with regard to the threat that Russia poses in cyber space. Since publication, however, one

ZERO DAY

My view with all of this is, essentially, the situation is fluid.

When you have Donald sat writing Truth Social posts about the "Russia Hoax" on a daily basis and publicly musing about removing sanctions on Russia, downstream there's going to be confusion about what is happening.

The DoD are now denying the story the BBC confirmed (and which the DoD provided a quote on). https://infosec.exchange/@JosephMenn/114106241172786968

After criticism, the Pentagon now says there is no order to stand down cyber operations vs. Russia. @DODResponse on X: "@SecDef has neither canceled nor delayed any cyber operations directed against malicious Russian targets and there has been no stand-down order whatsoever from that priority."

Infosec Exchange
Going to be interesting to see how @therecord_media responds.
It turns out the CISA memo about Russia does exist. https://infosec.exchange/@metacurity/114111850381167351

Attached: 1 image Folks, there is confusion on whether a memo related to the CISA story on Russian threats even exists. It does exist. DHS told me on Monday it exists but that it is “not from the Trump administration.” Plus someone in a position to know told me about it but claims the CISA analyst misinterpreted it.

Infosec Exchange
@GossiTheDog @therecord_media There are no malicious targets in Russia, according to the king. Easy word play.

@GossiTheDog @therecord_media

"We've always been at war with [the truth]."

@GossiTheDog we have ALWAYS been allied with Eurasia and at war with Oceania.
@GossiTheDog that's the outside looking in viewpoint.
The inside viewpoint is: nope. This is all a done deal. There is no question everyone top to bottom is in bed with Putin.
@GossiTheDog @kimzetter If Republicans are not reacting to this they are all complicit in supporting Russia!
@GossiTheDog Probably sounds better in the original Russian.
@GossiTheDog I thought Hegseth told his cyber warriors to stand down.

@GossiTheDog
I assume they were just meaning to type 'war thunder' and got caught by a translation error.

I kid, I kid, it's probably been at least a week since something leaked there.

@GossiTheDog the good ol' "say a bunch of words with fancy jargon mixed in and hope it sounds smart".
@GossiTheDog It means they're going to make it a federal crime to dox soldiers
@igb Presumably Hegseth believes that black ICE kills more soldiers than IEDs...
@GossiTheDog "Oceania was at war with Eastasia: Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia"
@GossiTheDog That must mean Russia stopped all cyber operations against us too, right?
@GossiTheDog
Don’t want to offend our closest ally.
@GossiTheDog have I got this right? Spend weeks deleting all US agencies that hand our computer security, the tell tell military to stand down? How is this not inviting war?
@GossiTheDog just "against," or are they at least still defending? I am ok with them not trashing Russia's electrical infrastructure or something, but if they're just walking out of the 7-Eleven and leaving the register open...
@GossiTheDog No, they don't. They confirm only the stopping of *offensive* cyber operations against Russia.
@GossiTheDog it’s hard to grasp this level of grift, corruption and evil.

@GossiTheDog

Translation: "US officials confirm they have surrendered to Russia"

@GossiTheDog everyone needs to travel more so badly
@GossiTheDog
I wonder which continent Moscow is in.
@GossiTheDog Yeah, don‘t end up like Europe, as we’re totally stunned and cannot believe what‘s going on on the other side of the Atlantic. Heartbroken. Our best buddy broke up with us, and we don’t know why 😢 Not recommended.
@GossiTheDog like Elon musk and the Tate bros?
@GossiTheDog but we fly Andrew Tate and his fucking brother here?

@GossiTheDog You end up like Trump when your father is a sadistic drunk and you spend your life avoiding treatment for emotional disease riding around in the back of limos.

Donald Trump is an aged isolated sociopath who has never participated in American life.

@GossiTheDog

Literally just the two Spider-Man meme!

@GossiTheDog
As in “have healthcare”?
@GossiTheDog
Rape gangs? Like private jet flights with Nyland or Epstein??
@GossiTheDog maybe he meant "end up like Europe in 1939". Getting taken over by Nazis doing Hitler salutes.
You don't want that.

@GossiTheDog

Use of the word ‘fake’ …

Yup, TOTALLY a legit statement 🤣😂

@GossiTheDog yeah, sure, because everyone working in infosec has an IQ in the low 30's.
@GossiTheDog I think they might be going ahead with the US-Russia Cyber Force proposed in 2017. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-40552571
Donald Trump backtracks on Russia joint cybersecurity unit

Donald Trump said a cybersecurity unit with Russia would not happen - hours after proposing the idea.

@GossiTheDog it's because elmo is going to have a super serial cyber force to deal with Russia
@GossiTheDog wow, wow... WOW. WTH!?!!
@GossiTheDog insane decisions coming from the orange office
