Mosaic knitting is extremely addictive, and it always appears way more complicated than it is (spoiler: you only knit with one yarn at a time).

My new shawl is growing nicely, and I hope to release another pattern soon.

A couple of weeks ago, I finished this mosaic shawl. I love the way it turned out, and it was a good use of random skeins of yarn that were languishing in my stash.

An obsession with mosaic knitting.

@jenschuetz That's gorgeous! I love mosaic knitting too, it's like magic. Wrangling multiple strands of yarn at once is not relaxing for me, but mosaic knitting is sheer pleasure.

@wordridden And the fact that mosaic motifs offer infinite possibilities is awesome.

I actually converted a stranded yoke sweater to slip stitch a few years back, and it did sort of work out. My tension was still off, but that sweater could have used more short row shaping in the neckline to lay flat.

I eventually ripped out the whole sweater.

@jenschuetz it’s my favorite type of colorwork! This is a lovely pattern 😍. I’d love to knit it once you release it πŸ’œ

@mostlybadfly Thank you! I did release another all-over mosaic shawl a bit ago. I didn’t have it test knit or tech edited, though. It was more of an exercise in pattern development.

If you’re on Ravelry, you can snag it for free.

@jenschuetz oh it’s beautiful 😍 thank you!

@jenschuetz

This is a beautiful pattern stitch - just the kind I'm looking for at the moment. Though it might end up on a loop / cowl

@FanCityKnits Thank you! I think mosaic motifs are awesome in cowls too. For some reason, I just can’t get into cowls, though. I used to love them, but somewhere along my knitting journey triangular shawls became my thing.
@jenschuetz That pattern is beautiful and looks like it would be very enjoyable to knit!

@jenschuetz

I agree. And also extremely beautiful. I'm now working on a sweater which uses mosaic transitions between colours. Very satisfying.

@nobyeni Nice! Is it a good stash-busting project? I always have so many little random balls of yarn leftover from projects. I found a good use for them in the form of granny squares, but mosaic with color transitions would be lovely!

@jenschuetz

I think so. It is written with larger parts of colour in between the transitions, but I'm thinking you could leave those out and just do more transitions. I might try doing one with mini skeins from an advent calendar.

But I'm testing the pattern, it's not yet published.

@jenschuetz mosaic knitting has been on my list of things I want to try for ages but that picture has bumped it up the priority list - gorgeous stuff!
@Lemlems Definitely put mosaic in your queue! The only other colorwork I’ll do is stripes. I’ve tried stranded / fair isle knitting, and carrying more than one yarn at a time isn’t my vibe. Mosaic / slip stitch knitting is more approachable and with an equally beautiful result.
