If you take Canadian oil out of the equation, Canada actually has a trade deficit, and the U.S. has a surplus — of $58 billion.

We supply oil to the USA to ensure North American energy independence, so North America can never again be held hostage by OPEC countries.

How f*cking DARE Trump spin this to his gullible followers to make Canada appear to be taking advantage.

Every democracy in the world needs to stand with Canada against Trump, Musk, and Putin.

@MeanwhileinCanada Canada is one of the best executions of democracy in the world. The US was a stale, obsolescent democracy that has unfortunately transitioned into #idiocracy.
@MeanwhileinCanada based on polls, most Americans like what Trump is doing. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna191561
How is that for collective intelligence? 😳

What the polls shows the public thinks about the early days of President Donald Trump's administration.

@Anne_Canada @MeanwhileinCanada What polls? I wasn't polled? Were you? Genuine question

@Kovatoro @MeanwhileinCanada can’t help you there. I just googled it and found a number of polls saying the same thing. It’s always a good idea to keep tabs on all sides of opinion so you know what you are dealing with.

Apparently the non trump people need to work harder to be heard over the noise.

@Anne_Canada
The mainstream US media is manipulating the information. Shocking... I know. I didn't watch the SuperBowl, but apparently Trump was booed except on the Fox network. They used 'canned cheers' to cover up the boos and then reported how everyone cheered. 🇨🇦 👍

@Anne_Canada
Somehow I don't believe these polls. Also I think that people have not yet figured out what is happening and what is about to happen.

And yes, lots of Americans are truly stupid...

@MeanwhileinCanada Unfortunately, far too many Canadians are taking trump side

@MaxPower @MeanwhileinCanada (whispered): here come the drones!

But in all seriousness, this world is fucked.

@MaxPower @MeanwhileinCanada
They watch too much US TV.
UK is much the same, on the US media umbilical cord.
@MeanwhileinCanada Unfortunately very few of our "friends" have had very much to say on the matter. Unfortunately we're on our own much like England in in 1940, except against perhaps even greater odds.

@mike @MeanwhileinCanada We (the UK) in 1940 had the help of the Empire, the Commonwealth, and lots of people from places like Poland and Czechoslovakia, so we weren't quite "alone", just without the USA

8 Things You Need To Know About The Battle Of Britain

The Battle of Britain was a major air campaign fought over southern England in the summer and autumn of 1940. Here are 8 things you need to know about one of Britain’s most important victories of the Second World War.

@MeanwhileinCanada I guess your advantage is to take money for the oil being sent down. (/sarcasm)
@tha @MeanwhileinCanada How much money we take for that oil is very much dictated by powers outside our control.
@mike sure, given today‘s business rules apply. The hidden claim possibly is that they expect to pay nothing for it.
@MeanwhileinCanada he he he..m you guys are being screwed....
@BigG @MeanwhileinCanada See, though, if it's a partnership, you might be fine with getting screwed. It's after the divorce that things like that get messy.

@MeanwhileinCanada

If you expect people to cheer for Canadian oil and the Canadian tar sands, you are wrong. (Hopefully).

I hope that Trump screws up trade so badly that both the Canadian and US fossil fuel industries collapse.

@MeanwhileinCanada The reality is Canada could slow output to a trickle, just enough the pipes don’t clog.

Then the U.S. gets a nice price hike unless DJT starts importing Russian oil from his boss Vlad.

@johnn_bunyan @MeanwhileinCanada We don't want that until Russia is out of Ukraine though.

@MeanwhileinCanada

Just pause all trade relationships with the US while the orange idiot and his junta are in power, and close off the border to the US. It may hurt you in the short run, but it'll hurt you much more in the long run to accommodate that clown.

@MeanwhileinCanada American here. Cut it off, I wont mind one bit. Make the rollin' coal rednecks suffer for their vote.

@MeanwhileinCanada I find these lamentations about a trade deficit funny:

If people buy less from you than you buy from them ... then go and sell them more.

And if they don't want to buy more from you then maybe you need to review what you have to offer them (e.g. in terms of relevance, pricing and quality)?

@kiefheim @MeanwhileinCanada Trump sees business as a zero-sum game: if the balance tips one way or the other that side is «winning». And he does not understand that when you buy something you get goods in return.

Anyway, if Canada turns off the oil and gas going to the US the balance will switch, if that is what Trump wants…

@toriver @MeanwhileinCanada Yes, but it is silly. He's old enough to know better.

Sorry.

Stupid me.

@MeanwhileinCanada Sell it to Europe instead, please! 😀 Or at least stop discounting it...

@[email protected]
Well, the thing you have to remember is that Trump makes it a personal policy to not pay for anything. He thinks it's embarrassing that the US is paying Canada for... goods and services. The advantage he sees us taking is... expecting payment for the shit they buy.

So, by his definitions, we're absolutely taking advantage of the US.

@MeanwhileinCanada it’s time for Canada stop providing oil to the US. Unless we stand up to Trump, he will run roughshod over every decent human being.
@MeanwhileinCanada Canada should enact a “reverse tariff”, eg a tax on exports that the US exempted from its import tariffs to save its economy, like oil. Yeah it’s petty, but so is POTUS.
@MeanwhileinCanada We're going to need y'all to hold the democracy fort while we get this confuffle at home straightened out. Your patience is appreciated. We're hopeful to be restoring our regularly scheduled democracy in progress as soon as possible.
@MeanwhileinCanada He is ignorant, stupid, demented, and incapable of learning anything.
@MeanwhileinCanada Thanks for speaking up Trump just wants to stir everything up putting it mildly he is a fool We the people of America a majority apologize for his actions we will do our best to stand against him !
@MeanwhileinCanada thank you for the clarification.

@MeanwhileinCanada

I have a balance of trade deficit with every store I shop at.

I guess I should take them all over.

@MeanwhileinCanada

Sell it to Europe instead…

@MeanwhileinCanada @GottaLaff drop the American English spelling too and use English like the rest of us - “subsidise”
@MeanwhileinCanada
Stand together
Not just against Trump
But against the global billionaire oligarchs
Who are working to snuff out democracy
All over the world.
Canada, France, Australia, Denmark, Norway etc the dwindling number or actual democracies
Need to form a specific global alliance against
Democracy killers
@MeanwhileinCanada it seens that canadians massivly boycot america. Drip in tourists. #he put tariffs on steel and aluminium which the #us desperately needs. Blame it on the #republicans
