Halfway through a project and I’ve released I probably should have used #Nextflow. I’m sure it was never meant to get this big when I originally planned it out in my head…

#bioinformatics

@lwpembleton I swear I've had this bite me so many times before that I just about start every project as a Snakemake workflow now. 😕

And then I don't. Because it won't be that big.

@thatdnaguy haha that's exactly it! for this one job theoretically it was meant to be smaller, I wont need any workflow for this quick manual task (I naively said) but because a feature in a piece of software appears to not work, I've had to manually hack it around, resulting is parallel isolated tasks, folders etc. Also I may have underestimated how ploidy can really screw over a simple task...
@lwpembleton "I may have underestimated how ploidy can really screw over a simple task" should probably be a t-shirt. 🤣
@lwpembleton I'm like this with {targets}, always regretting not making something a {targets} workflow from the beginning. Slowly realizing that there are few projects so small that using a workflow manager is a waste of time
@LeafyEricScott 💯 there in that basket with {targets} as well, maybe even more so as it requires getting all that R hacking (i.e. messy code) into a function, where as Nextflow is maybe a little more lenient to dumping a messy set of bash commands in a process...
