For about 4 years between 2016 and 2020, my husband and I had an opportunity to travel in the Western U.S. as full-time RVers. We lived in our motorhome, Stimpy, and towed a pickup truck, Ren, behind when on the move. It was such a different life experience compared to settling down in one place. We got to explore many wonderful places that the U.S. (and Canada) have to offer, and learned to live in our “tiny” house on wheels.

Some of the cool things we did includes camping on the rim of a canyon. I kept track of places we traveled with our RVs in the map.
What we saw a lot of when we lived on the road were beautiful sunsets, many of them. When you work or live in a house, many times you look out of the window and it’s already dark outside. Living in an RV, you live much closer to the outside. Here is one of the most dramatic sunsets I have seen. It was at Washoe Lake State Park in Nevada.
One advantage of RVing is our home has wheels and we can follow the weather, or avoid it. Want a sunny day at Crater Lake National Park or misty Oregon Coast? You got it.
Then there is Alabama Hills in the California's Eastern Sierra. This place is gorgeous for dry camping. You have Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48, as a backdrop and surrounded by fascinating boulders.
If you like deserts and mountains, I think you will enjoy Alabama Hills. In fact, you will enjoy the whole Eastern Sierra region. There are so much to do and see.

During our full-time RVing, we got to visit the place I had been wanting to see, the Monument Valley. It’s located in the Navajo Nation, near the border of Arizona and Utah.
And a less popular Valley of the Gods in Utah, where it felt like we got the entire place to ourselves.
In 2018, we spent a couple of months in the desert of Southern Utah. We had a wonderful time exploring the area. We camped at Utah's Goosenecks State Park for a few days by parking our motorhome right next to the canyon rim. Look at the view from the outside of the front windshield.
Driving the Cottonwood Canyon Road in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah. Very remote area. No cell signal. The road is not passable after rain.

Southern Utah is such a beautiful area. This is outside Canyonlands National Park.

With our RVs, we spent 2 months in the Canadian Rockies. Lots of hiking and sightseeing.
Our motorhome is set up with solar panels and lithium battery system that allows us to dry camp for extended periods without relying on a generator. Our best dry camping experience was in Idaho, outside the town of Stanley. A gorgeous place.
Sun Valley, just outside Ketchum, Idaho. Beautiful, but lots of bugs when we were there.
