Today, I learned that you get a caterpillar if you repeatedly press ⌘⌃S in the Calculator.
@vancura a calculaterpiller! how fun 🐛
@vancura
This is what I'm here for.
Thank you.
@excess Thank Apple :) I hope they won't fix it.

Today, I learned that you get a caterpillar if you repeatedly press ⌘⌃S in the Calculator.

@vancura it doesn’t work on mine ☹️

(Mac OS “Sonoma” 14.6.1)

@ramin_hal9001 Try a couple of Calculator.app restarts. It's pretty fragile.
@ramin_hal9001 @vancura aw man, sequoia 15.2 doesn't seem to do it either :/
@rothko @ramin_hal9001 I am on that build as well, and it works here. Just restart Calculator.app a couple of times. The window resize code is pretty buggy.
@ramin_hal9001@fe.disroot.org @vancura Sonoma's calculator doesn't have the requisite sidebar funcrtionality
@vancura That made me giggle as I tried it. Thanks!

@vancura It’s convergent evolution.
@vancura Remember, the security and safety of your data on macOS is handled by people with the same dedication to fit, finish, and testing, as those who allowed that to reach the release build.
@metaning Not really. Entirely different people handle CoreOS and other security-related systems in the kernel than those implementing the UI code.
@vancura Company culture is driven from the top. If you see a problem in one place, you can be sure it's occurring everywhere else as well.
@metaning You know, I am far from an Apple fanboy. I know about a zillion issues in all their products, but I don’t think it’d be fair to summarize that if you see a UI code issue in the calculator (and there are a few, not just the caterpillar bug), everything in the company is rotten. Bugs are normal and everywhere. Not just at Apple. Just dig a bit, and you’ll see them all around you.

@vancura Any yet bugs are "everywhere" so one should assume the calculator *is* typical of the quality, and reliability of all the work done, and OK'd for release by Apple.

Hell, the entire Sonoma release had non-functional PCI mass storage drivers, which was literally the only unique use case for the 2023 Mac Pro, Apple's most expensive "pro" product.

Found a weird thing hiding in macOS! https://waxy.org/2023/04/the-bitcoin-whitepaper-is-hidden-in-every-modern-copy-of-macos/

@vancura I am incredibly disappointed that this doesn't work in the Monterey calculator app :c just opens the Paper Tape window
@luci Now this is a very good reason to update :)
@vancura unfortunately, it's a school issued iMac. Would if I could.
