@madeindex I don’t really think you can do anymore than what Apple already does.
Should be asking this about Android, that shit is a mess.😅

KaApple song
"Trust in me, just in me
Shut your eyes and trust in me" ...
If you opt for an Android smartphone
there are alternative OS in 'open software'
Goodbye Google and Gafam
(first choose an OS and then a fully compatible phone)
For those who believe in the Apple god
they'll be left with a piece of apple stuck in their throat
@madeindex @jifi There aren’t any and there are drawbacks to installing a custom OS as well. At the very least, you get a lovely warning every time you boot up, yay.
Graphene is ok but it’s not the end all be all of Android security. If it were, other companies would be using it….
@dademurphy @madeindex
The principle of open software is that there's a community that reviews the code if you can't do it yourself, but if you prefer to trust a single company that keeps everything secret
that's up to you
And maybe they make more money from your personal data than from your phone?
I'm no expert
I can only say
I use lineageOS
I know someone who has an Ubuntu on Fairphone
What probably remains proprietary
are the drivers
>accessories manufacturers
Ask someone more competent
@dademurphy @madeindex @FransVeldman
There's the OS but also what you install...
I've just read that meta, for example, makes around $3900 in revenue from data collection for each Threads subscriber
(long live Mastodon)
Check it out

It's clear that not everyone is interested in regulation and fact checking
@jifi @madeindex I know what the principle is, I was on custom ROM teams for almost a decade.
And yes, I will trust a company that’s been doing this about as long as I have been alive, rather than hobbyists.
I’m not sure what information you think they are sharing, other than what is needed for functionality, but it is certainly a considerable amount less than Android, especially when iOS offers specific features to protect your identity, like private relay, which hides your location and/or internet activity while using safari.
There is also the “hide my email” feature, which allows you to generate random email addresses that forward to your real address. That’s just two, off the top of my head. You can physically see the lengths Apple goes to protect your identity, versus rumors that talk about information they share.
Yeah, I’ll listen to Apple, thanks.
