Am I fruitlessly searching for a #unicorn?

My doc wants me to switch from fingerpokes to a #CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor). It's covered by my insurance, so no problem there.

BUT the pharmacy gave me the sensors, no reader, because "there's an app".

Welp, just like the app for my fingerpoke sensor, the #FreeStyleLibre2 shares data with 'trusted third parties', none of whom are my doctor. 🙄

When I discovered that with my fingerpoke sensor, I ditched the app and made a #spreadsheet, complete with any auto-caclulations I find useful.

I know a reader *exists* for this model of #CGM sensor, as I have an elder who uses the same brand/model.

The pharmacy says they can try to order one in a few days (but it was unclear if "try" meant they expect to be successful or not). 😳

#BloodSugars
#monitoring

I've poked around via #SearchEngine but have found nothing useful re any non-#Abbot branded readers, so I am starting to wonder if such a thing doesn't even exist.

😳🤔😡

#CGM

So am I looking for a #unicorn?

Because notwithstanding that I cannot envision a SINGLE #ThirdParty who might need access to my #BloodGlucose readings OTHER THAN my #doctor, I think it is pretty damn gross and unethical to make a critical #medical #monitoring device unable to be used without user data being taken by default (and no opt out).

After all, Abbot IS being paid for this product, whether by me or my insurer is irrelevant. So, we pay but then they take MORE???!?

This isn't Twitter, where I can live perfectly fine without using it, or I can choose to use their service in exchange for #dataveillance and #DataMining.

Abbot is pursuing supremely NOT cool corporate overreach, IMO.

Anyhow, any information that might point me towards more #DataSafe alternatives -- if they exist -- is much appreciated! ❤️

Discovering this problem is very worrying -- lots of us have no choice but to ise this technology and there should NEVER be any question regarding the patient's absolute right to #DataPrivacy. 😡😡😡

I thought there was one but maybe it was the freestyle libre I.

I completely agree with you and absolutely despise that we have to share everything about our diabetes w/ third parties that use our information for money. It's horrible.

I had to make the decision as well. Even with a reader, you're sharing information. It's all linked to something. But with the dexcom #CMG and the #omnipod 5 pump, for the first time in over a decade, my A1C was below 7! Got down to 6.6

@likelyjanlukas

I'm also afraid that one day someone will hack dexcom or Abbott and change everyone's blood sugar to like 300, everyone will take more insulin and go into insulin shock. Or they'll hack into omnipod and give everyone an extra 10 units of insulin
