I don't think people realised how disgusting the change from maps.google.com to google.com/maps was for a privacy point of view. If you allow location access now for google maps, google.com now has access.

@kkarhan @xssfox OSM has more accurate map data but Google Maps is often the only place businesses' opening hours and phone numbers can be looked up online.

@notsoloud @organicmaps @xssfox isn't that the app where you can import any graphixs and you just say which coordinates are in the corners / define at least 2-4 points and it'll display those?

  • Cuz I know some folks used something like that to use Soviet Military Maps in Subsahaea Africa as they actually mapped a lot if unmarked and unpaved routes...

Haven't tried that, can't say. But for downloading OSM maps and doing household navigation on bike/foot/car it works fine.

Osmand has lots more features, but that may not be an advantage, depending on you and your use case.
