aevawe don't have a main character of the day here on fedi but we do occasionally have a vaguely main character shaped hole that shows up from time to time to haunt us with the second hand awareness of the existence of bad opinions out there somewhere far away

My solution is "both are bad, because they lack an alpha channel, and support for an RGBA on-screen framebuffer."
@GyrosGeier I think we should switch to displays with eight color channels. we can clearly afford 8k, a thing nobody needs, so why can't we just have all of the colors instead.

@azonenberg @aeva that's just DisplayPort with fewer steps though.
@aeva my plan is to go into a BlackMagic Mini, which can take alpha from luminance of a second HDMI port — so I'm thinking of building a horrible hack that just feeds one output on RGB values from a 32 bit framebuffer, and the other from 8 bit grey values with stride 4.
Or I could do the lazy thing and write a compositor that does this step, but I don't know how well compositors stack, if at all.
