#PSA via @kjcharles "UK WRITERS: You need to fill in this consulation. Govt is very clearly looking to an opt-out model of rights licensing that puts all the burden on creators instead of profiteers. It's long and boring but this is important."

@herhandsmyhands @juliannewalser Thank you! I have boosted it and saves the link to do a response to the consultation.
@herhandsmyhands @juliannewalser And copied the link to the Blue sky thread, which looks like it's very useful.
@herhandsmyhands I'm working through it at the moment, it's like they designed it to be as opaque as possible 😢
@SMaddonWriter I would not be shocked if that were the case exactly.
@herhandsmyhands @kjcharles I’m not a writer, but what can I do to help? What kind of responses would be beneficial for writers?
@herhandsmyhands @kjcharles it's certainly long and boring. Almost as if they want to discourage responses from the wider population by including complicated questions. When what is really needed boils down to one question: 'Should AI companies pay to use other people's IP?' I am not qualified to say 'how', but I know enough about the 'what' and the 'why'. IP theft is theft, full stop.

@herhandsmyhands @kjcharles
I am currently halfway through responding to this consultation, which proposes to give "AI" slop slurpers a special exception to copyright.

Gosh, it is making me very cross. I find myself writing quite excoriating prose.

CC @openrightsgroup

@Diziet some responses I've seen include, "my intellectual property is mine and I do not consent" and "copyright is the only real protection writers have, and I'm keeping it for my intellectual property" (paraphrased some)
