i have never in my life heard turkish delight referred to as "Narnia Cubes" but this is probably what i'm calling em from now on
@jplebreton i am henceforth calling turkish delight 'narnia cubes' hahah
@jplebreton The idea that a kid would sell out for such a bland and deceptively named treat was the most unbelievable part of that book.

@dalias @jplebreton

If you think Turkish Delights is bland you have only had terrible Turkish Delight. That's very sad :-(
If you're expecting a gummy bear it's nowhere near as cloying, but instead you get a rich nuanced flavour (my favourite is the traditional rose), enhanced by the powdered sugar exterior. It's *so* good!

@deirdrebeth @dalias i have had good turkish delight before, and yes, it can be quite good! if i encounter a random place with it in the wild it's still a crapshoot, of course, but that's true of several foods.
@jplebreton now referring to the bible as an Aslan kind of story
Turkish Delight

xkcd

@uexo @jplebreton

This may be the first time I've ever disagreed so hard with an XKCD! Very sad.

@uexo @jplebreton loved it when I was a kid, LOL. Still do πŸ˜‰
@jplebreton I can't be on either side of this controversy until I've tasted some.
@jplebreton looking at them i immediately thought of minecraft. betrayal voxels.
@jplebreton i think we should adopt this new name because i can’t stand the loukoum-turkish delight debate. πŸ˜‚

@jplebreton

This is how I know of Turkish Delight and it took me well into adulthood to ever try it, all the intervening time believing it was this delicious thing.

I mean this with the utmost respect to the Turkish people, but Turkish Delight is deeply disappointing.

@jplebreton Best thing about Turkish Delight is it's not made with gelatin, but just starch. Much more pleasant texture; Trader Joes makes similar fruit jellies with no gelatin that are excellent.

I'll take mochi, warabimochi, or turkish delight style jellies over gummy bears any day.

@causticmsngo πŸ’―, imo mochi is one of the best food textures created by humans
@jplebreton I begged my mom to get me some one Christmas because of the book. We found some at Macy's in NYC. It was pricy and disappointing. But now I suspect it was because of the manufacturer. It wasn't fresh. It was boxed.
@jplebreton
"Narnia cubes" is what the White Witch would have called them ...
@jplebreton Miss White Witch? May I have more Narnia Cubes??
@jplebreton @acarson Oh yeah! Narnia Cubes! I remember when I first had Turkish Delight in my twenties, I was so excited to eat food that I had only heard of in a book!
