Yesterday three NYU colleagues were arrested supporting and observing a student protest. One of those colleagues is now being told that she may not be able to return to faculty housing.
Other colleagues have been declared personas non grata, and cannot come on campus for any reason, including teaching their classes.
This is anticipatory obedience and it is going to get worse.

As far as I know, the only institutional reaction from American law schools to federal results from 2024 election has been to tell foreign law students to get to campus before Trump's inauguration, part of broader warnings from universities and colleges. I can find no record of law schools holding

Yeah, the book-burning thing in Florida was setting a lot of people's radars to "Wait, I've heard this before.."
And it's just devolved ever since.
@historianess Doing what they did has the intent of ultimately getting arrested. It's a long-standing process of nonviolent protest.
Now the university's response is what I question. Is there a clause in the contracts that make arrest an issue with teaching? It seems overly harsh and troublesome.

As @historianess has pointed out, the "obey in advance" brigade is already out in full force at NYU. Three NYU faculty have been told that they are "persona non grata," which means that they cannot enter any university buildings, including their own classrooms and faculty housing. This is not only an assault on free speech, but it is a disturbing wave of anti-intellectualism that will only calcify.

Suddenly getting rid of faculty in the middle of a teaching term undermines their academic capacity.
