@davidaugust How would one find the addresses of these properties, hypothetically, for entertainment purposes only?

@SordidAmok good question. I’d imagine the most direct way would be the find the subsidiaries owned by Blackrock and then search property records at places like the county recorder of deeds (might be online for a lot of counties).

@davidaugust

If that stat is correct that's fucking abysmal.

@davidaugust I've been curious a law Congress could enact somehow restricting landlords not renting empty space and that allowable rents they could charge-in different markets. Real Estate is always(almost) a shrewd investment, but there a laws against monopolies. I hope Congress acts to remedy this travesty soon.
@patcanfield I do too. The proposed End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act might be an interesting read.
@davidaugust One Term representatives and Senators-Being Limited, One term at a stretch-The Remedy? This bill? We NEED Serious Legislation limiting campaign donations, End Citizens United! 1st! I realize asking Congress to devise Fair Rules of Campaign Finance is like asking rats to guard the mouse traps. The Rats need Senate Investigations, after their heads are clear of the sphincters they're up at their necks in.
@davidaugust
Don't know what exactly "homes" means in this context, this company owns over 500k flats

@davidaugust

Empty houses fall apart and cost money to maintain, so this is just another bubble that will pop.

@SpaceLifeForm hopefully the foolish stewardship of their housing portfolio will temper their behavior. The like your idea.
@davidaugust I am absolutely convinced that every single vacant property should be taxed thrice its market value and should never be a write off.
@davidaugust
They are well on the way to making the entire US a "company town". You'll get a home from Blackrock, groceries from Walmart, transport from Tesla, news from Fox, and entertainment from Disney.

@davidaugust Gives them plenty of money to blame everything on immigrants and allow the ignorance and xenophobia of stupid people do the rest for them.

Thanks again Trump supporters for making sure we'll all be serfs by your being too egotistical to actually trouble yourselves with facts and critical thinking skills.

@davidaugust @courtcan Should be fucking illegal

@[email protected] No, we have not kept doing business as usual. Democrats have been working to solve this. For example, the End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act. The Harris-Walz policy plans addressed this: https://nhc.org/the-harris-walz-housing-plan-detailed-serious-and-impactful/ And so have Democratic Senators: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/senators-take-aim-big-private-equity-landlords-rents-soar-rcna176793 And more broadly the Democrats: https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2024/01/05/hedge-fund-rental-housing-home-affordable-representative-adam-smith-congress- They have not yet had the votes in Congress to fully take the actions on our behalf, but they are working to.
