Mr. Plankton
(2024 - Netflix 10 1:00 eps)

On the day of her wedding to the heir of an ancient family, the bride, pregnant with the next heir, is kidnapped by a man who has just received life-changing news.

It pulls so many emotions out - I was laughing while sobbing. The 1st scene helps to prepare us for this journey of discovering what life means, how important each individual is, what love is, & what being family entails.

The details in the costuming (shoes, baseball uniform), lighting, sound FX, & OST pull you further into the story & impart so much meaning to a simple gesture or a beautifully written line - of which there are many.

The title is unusual, but surprisingly carries the weight of the most important message in the drama. Still pondering all that I learned several days after makes it one of the best of 2024.

Mr. Plankton

Nobody loves Hae Jo, because nobody, including Hae Jo, knows who is his real father. This makes people think he is like an impure substance among them....

@whoosh this one just popped up for me on Netflix, and I was wondering if it was worth watching. The title was so odd.

@cs

I was watching with @EllenInEdmonton and around the 3rd episode, I said, the title just doesn't fit anything that's going on. She told me to be patient & she was so right.

Just thinking about it now give me goosebumps. It's a very appropriate title.

Honestly, I would say that the title was THE most apt of any of the dramas that I've watched. But, like many aspects of the drama, one has to be patient to find out why.

@EllenInEdmonton @whoosh @cs It certainly seems like a polarising Drama. The very first lengthy review of it I read criticised it for multiple instances where characters chose violence as the first and preferred option for solving perceived problems. That opening scene was one of several from the first few episodes the reviewer cited. Enough to convince this delicate flower that the Drama is not for me. Actually, that opening scene would be enough to do that.

@ronsboy67 @EllenInEdmonton @cs

It definitely has violence, but I thought it appropriate for the characters, the environment they are in, the jobs they have, & the desperation they feel.

If violence isn't your thing, this may be one to skip. Since recently completing Sweet Home 2, my gauge on what is too much may be temporarily (permanently?) shifted.

@whoosh @EllenInEdmonton @cs Yep, my ability to watch overt violence in any entertainment has been steadily dropping for the last 2 decades or so. I know that means there's a whole LOT of content that's not for me (and that includes things I watched and enjoyed years ago), and I'm fine with that. It's one part of why I don't watch (m)any historicals, either #CDrama or #KDrama - and DEFINTELY not taiga #JDrama . Just too squeamish 🙀 😀
