& she was fabulous as an actress in all, but the most memorable character she played was - Gil Joong Gan - in "Strong Girl Namsoon."
The drama itself left a lot to be desired, but Gil Joong Gan's story was the best story line. She was fabulous as she tried to find love again.

On the day of her wedding to the heir of an ancient family, the bride, pregnant with the next heir, is kidnapped by a man who has just received life-changing news.
It pulls so many emotions out - I was laughing while sobbing. The 1st scene helps to prepare us for this journey of discovering what life means, how important each individual is, what love is, & what being family entails.
The details in the costuming (shoes, baseball uniform), lighting, sound FX, & OST pull you further into the story & impart so much meaning to a simple gesture or a beautifully written line - of which there are many.
The title is unusual, but surprisingly carries the weight of the most important message in the drama. Still pondering all that I learned several days after makes it one of the best of 2024.

Gyeongseong Creature
(2023 - Netflix, 10 1:10 eps)
Unusual in that it depicts the Japanese occupation in 1945 & the war crimes. Many actors turned down the roles because the topic is too sensitive.
When you hate horror, but you find yourself rooting for the creature, you know the writing & acting are fabulous. The costumes are wonderful, the sets, the props, all superbly executed. It is a stellar production.
An unwilling hero finds himself "drafted". Enlisting the help of professional detectives, they set off to find out what exactly is happening. It's a great mystery thriller with action, family & community, & romance.
The questions of what would you do under torture, what do you turn a blind eye to, how much risk are you willing to take, will haunt you as you see what the characters are up against.
Anxiously awaiting part 2.

Strong Girl Namsoon

I don't know if the layers & cohesive theme throughout all the relationships of "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" (SWDBS) was just a fluke or if the screenwriter was hired to make something simpler. What was delivered was a single, predictable plotline which was cartoonish, with a couple of side stories which had nothing to do with a central theme.
The women in the family have super strength. The grandma delivered this beautifully & her love story was great to see. The mother & daughter reminded me of Batman & a Power Puff girl. The FL was so cartoonish for the 1st half of the series she came off as foolish. The leads had no chemistry. The only redeeming things were the villain's, the grandma's & the father's acting, & the cameo by SWDBS leads.
Quite the disappointment for me.
