Stick in the Wheel is the duo Nicola Kearey (vocals) and Ian Carter (dobro), who play British folk music with a modern spin. They do this often by incorporating electronic textures, autotune, and distortion into more conventional forms to give the songs a contemporary feel without straying too far from their points of origin. They freely move between synth effects, fuzzy guitars and big stomping beats, all part of their tool set in the creative arrangements that add a variety to their presentation. Their catalog is a mixture of original compositions and traditional songs from British folklore. The band has consistently been keen on the heritage they are carrying on, something captured in their English Folk Field Recordings series (2017, 2019), as well as Perspectives on Tradition compilation (2022).
