Medicare is not a money-maker. It’s not supposed to be.

This is what happens when right wing propaganda works hard enough and gets enough people to spread it. Everyone gets screwed.

There are many reasons Dr. Oz shouldn't run the Medicare program. Here's a big one:

There are many reasons Dr. Oz shouldn't run the Medicare program. Here's a big one.

History suggests Dr. Mehmet Oz will seek to boost the use of Medicare Advantage — and that he’ll do it with the support of Trump.

@TonyStark Medicare is a public good. Seriously I can’t believe people still need to learn why this stuff exists.

@ScottSummers @TonyStark I aM nOT pAyiNG fOr sOmEOnE ElsE!

Except you are already, plus someone else’s fat salary. Duh people.

@TonyStark

Considering he will eligible for Medicare next year, maybe he should consider declining.

@TonyStark

All insurance is for profit: their reward for mitigation risk. It makes sense when covering objects and liability.

Health and living/dying should have no such middleman.

@blackburied Someone has to administer it. Successful counties have a government doing it- set up exactly like…Medicare. Thanks for playing.
@TonyStark “for profit” being the key term: Not a public company whose first obligation is to their shareholders.
@blackburied Medicare is already not for profit. Read the first toot.

@TonyStark you included an article that said:

“At the same time, the increasingly consolidated health care conglomeratesoffering up Medicare Advantage plans are raking in the bucks. The gross margins on the plans covering Americans over the age of 65 are more than double those of other health insurance offerings, including the coverage Americans receive via their employers. Such profits are helping fuel an epic mergers and acquisitions spree by the health care giants” ..

@blackburied Medicare isn’t the same as Medicare Advantage. That’s the whole point.

Nobody on this platform in this dumb. Take it somewhere else.

@TonyStark
That’s the key problem with Republicans. They actually seem to believe that government should be run like a business.

But if Wall Street has taught us nothing else, businesses are run solely to enrich the executive and a few filthy rich benefactors no matter the damage to the organization, the employees, or the customers.

It’s cutting throats for profit.

@TonyStark Everything Oz says and does is quackery. His plans lead to higher financial burdens for vulnerable groups, particularly those with lower incomes.

Unreal.

@TonyStark Dr. Oz is a cunt.

@alex02 He told people onions could prevent ovarian cancer.

Every single one of these people is a shithead fraud.

@TonyStark
I've been thinking this as I near retirement age. Working as nursing faculty, I've had the opportunity to ask nurse case managers and discharge planners in different facilities (long-term care, EDs, inpatient) what they think of Advantage plans versus traditional Medicare.
The universal advice: Don't give up traditional Medicare. Get a supplement.

@Onceoday @TonyStark Absolutely do not go for an Advantage plan. They're basically all a scheme to privatize Medicare so obviously fewer things are covered and claims are frequently denied to make the shareholders more money. Any time a health plan has shareholders you know that it isn't operating in your best interests.

Medicare Advantage Plans Denied a Larger Share of Prior Authorization Requests in 2022 Than in Prior Years | KFF

Medicare Advantage plans denied 3.4 million prior authorization requests for health care services in whole or in part in 2022, or 7.4% of the 46.2 million requests submitted on behalf of enrollees that year, according to a new KFF analysis of federal data. That was a higher share of denials than in recent years. The…More

@TonyStark but bad plastic surgery will be subsided for rich people

@TonyStark

"Keep your gubmit hands off my Medicare!"

@TonyStark Govt is not a business. It's propaganda for stupid people that don't understand either how a corporation works or the purpose of government. When the two are melded together we have corporatism which is disastrous for society
@BLTpizza @TonyStark
Yep, we get an oligarchy. 🤬😣
@TonyStark Healthcare as a profit center is vile.
@TonyStark
He may soon decide to eliminate CAAT scans,MRI, X-rays and elective surgeries for all over 65
That drives down Medicare costs and , soon thereafter, will reduce SS payments
