Pinyon-juniper removal projects are common in the #GreatBasin. We were asked to look at the impacts of these projects on the #bird community in several areas, including in the Pine Nut Mountains, in western #Nevada. #NevadaBirdCount #HabitatManagement #Conservation
There are a number of reasons why these projects have been initiated, one of which is to improve habitat for #sagebrush #birds, several of which are #conservation priorities.

Not surprisingly, removing pinyon and juniper trees to support sagebrush species can adversely impact pinyon-juniper species, some of which are *also* conservation priorities.

Decision support tools are therefore being developed to help land managers make the best decisions they can, in a complicated landscape with competing priorities.
