#AAB_IPPM meeting kicking off with excellent talk from Martin Lines
from the Nature-Friendly Farming Network. He has found that introducing flower-rich margins on his farm as habitat for beneficial biodiversity reduces pest damage significantly and much reduces need for synthetic inputs.

Putting strips of wildflowers (possibly buffered by tussocky grass) actually through crop fields increases their mobility into the crop, delivering more even management.

Need for more accessible tools for farmers to tailor habitat interventions to crop and key pests (current/future) #NaturalEnemies #IPM #HabitatManagement #NatureFriendlyFarming

Pinyon-juniper removal projects are common in the #GreatBasin. We were asked to look at the impacts of these projects on the #bird community in several areas, including in the Pine Nut Mountains, in western #Nevada. #NevadaBirdCount #HabitatManagement #Conservation
With these data, we’re able to help map distributions, develop habitat models, and estimate abundance & occupancy. We can also investigate the effects of management actions on the bird communities. The scale of these analyses varies from the size of a park to the breadth of #Nevada. #NevadaBirdCount #statistics #HabitatManagement #conservation #science @science
I ache and am quite tired but good day. Volunteer work day at local-ish nature reserve. Some previous tree-cutting generated a big pile of woodchip which had been left in an area that gets common twayblade orchids, so we moved the woodchip and use it to improve some paths. Lots of digging, walking about with barrows of woodchip, raking. But ultimately paid off. Other nice sightings: European hornet, female stag beetle,
Culicoides midge biting my hand! #Conservation #Woodland #HabitatManagement
@CheRosach OOF!
The argument in the UK leans heavily on the impact on iconic predator species - White tailed and Golden Eagles, Osprey etc. It would be interesting to know the relative impact of #HabitatManagement for 'sporting' estates c/w #WindTurbines #WindTurbinesBirds #Raptor #RaptorPersecution
Winter habitat works = completed mate! Ahead of the game this year with the Roots Upwards team, who grafted in some pretty extreme weather conditions...💪🌦️🌊❄️ We're trialling different techniques including conservation laying of trees and thorn, cluttered vs open glades, and scalloping our new bird ringing rides. The excitement of Blackthorn management never gets old 😁 #BiodiversityGatwick #WildlifeConservation #HabitatManagement @GGPWildlife
