Speaker Mike Johnson wants to block the ethics report about Matt Gaetz sexually abusing a child, because when someone is innocent of sexual abuse, you definitely want to block the report exonerating him.
@QasimRashid if the balance in the house remains this close, Johnson will need him to take his seat to cast a vote for speaker.
Gaetz has a history of playing around with speaker votes.
@PizzaDemon @QasimRashid but didn’t he officially resign from congress the other day. I don’t think he would get a vote anymore or be able to just unresign. I’m thinking this is a favor for Trump. “If I keep you from being prosecuted, you get the job of keeping me from being prosecuted”.
@answeradams yes he did, he's no longer a congressman. He district is going to have to hold a special election to fill his seat.
@samhainnight @answeradams Are the rules in Florida that an immediate special election is required? I got the impression that the governor, DeSantis, could seat someone until a special election or whatever Florida requires takes place. Same discussion for Rubio and the Senate seat.
@WizardBear @answeradams Possibly, but a special election will have to be held at some point. Either way he's out.
@samhainnight @answeradams Looks like Florida has different rules for filling US Senate vacancies than US House vacancies. DeSantis can fill a Senate vacancy until the next election. Looks like a House vacancy requires a special election. Thanks for making this point. All the best to you.
@PizzaDemon Gaetz has already resigned from the House. No going back. I have no proof, but it doesn’t seem beyond the pale a deal was cut. Gaetz resigns reducing opposition to Johnson. Johnson deep sixes the report. @QasimRashid
@QasimRashid I still don't get this one. He says he's Christian and I'm not sure what he means by that. All of this is something out of a horror movie and I'm not a fan of those types of movies.
@CrochetMom_78 @QasimRashid It’s easy to understand if you assume everything they say is a lie.
@davidbcohen @QasimRashid oh, I don't assume it. The person's actions will let me know who they truly are. Sometimes it presents right away and sometimes you have to wait for it.
"The righteous hate what is false": Mike Johnson betrays his faith by lying about immigrants voting

House Speaker Mike Johnson admits he has no data to support his claim that "illegals" vote by the "thousands"

@QasimRashid
speaker mike johnson is as creepy as any trump dildo would be.
What a gross and greasy little weasel.
@QasimRashid Here's what I don't get: POTUS is an adjudicated rapist. The GOP base clearly _does not care_ about moral turpitude. So by their math, what exactly did he do that's so bad – give tax money to a rape crisis center?

@QasimRashid

Let's just say, I know he did it now more than ever.

@QasimRashid Adults above Children is high on the list of conservative morality.
@Deixis9 @QasimRashid They just elected one of the weakest men I'm aware of. 🤷‍♂️

@QasimRashid You're thinking like a lawyer. What this noise about the report really does is send the signal: That's a nice new job you've got there Matt; be a shame if anything happened to it. Or maybe, "Don't worry, Matt. As long as you are on our side, that report will be well protected."

J. Edgar Hoover used that same trick. Had files on important people, and let them know the FBI would "safeguard" them. I'm sure DIRNSA does exactly the same today.

@QasimRashid

Yes. Johnson is good at running interference for Pedophiles.

Johnson ran interference for years, knowing Paul Pressler's unwelcome sexual activities w/teenage boys, as a "Judge." Johnson had full knowledge of the exploits, & cover-up, that also involved Ken Paxton & TX officials.

In Trump's circle & GOP, there is a perpetual cover-up of GOP wanting to prosecute gays...while they, themselves commit crimes as gays.

So...is Mike Johnson Trump's "Roy Cohn"?

The Hidden World of Mike Johnson, Culture Warrior, by Joe Conason

House Speaker Mike Johnson, lately elevated to one of the most important posts in the federal government, is nothing if not a fervent culture warrior. If Johnson had his way, not only would abortion and homosexuality be absolutely outlawed, with severe criminal penalties as punishment for any infraction, but so would contraception and what he calls
