@PizzaDemon @QasimRashid but didn’t he officially resign from congress the other day. I don’t think he would get a vote anymore or be able to just unresign. I’m thinking this is a favor for Trump. “If I keep you from being prosecuted, you get the job of keeping me from being prosecuted”.

@answeradams yes he did, he's no longer a congressman. He district is going to have to hold a special election to fill his seat.

@samhainnight @answeradams Are the rules in Florida that an immediate special election is required? I got the impression that the governor, DeSantis, could seat someone until a special election or whatever Florida requires takes place. Same discussion for Rubio and the Senate seat.

@samhainnight @answeradams Looks like Florida has different rules for filling US Senate vacancies than US House vacancies. DeSantis can fill a Senate vacancy until the next election. Looks like a House vacancy requires a special election. Thanks for making this point. All the best to you.

@PizzaDemon Gaetz has already resigned from the House. No going back. I have no proof, but it doesn’t seem beyond the pale a deal was cut. Gaetz resigns reducing opposition to Johnson. Johnson deep sixes the report. @QasimRashid

@QasimRashid You're thinking like a lawyer. What this noise about the report really does is send the signal: That's a nice new job you've got there Matt; be a shame if anything happened to it. Or maybe, "Don't worry, Matt. As long as you are on our side, that report will be well protected."

J. Edgar Hoover used that same trick. Had files on important people, and let them know the FBI would "safeguard" them. I'm sure DIRNSA does exactly the same today.
