@rrb @Pistolenkind @Jumpmed @RickiTarr
I don't know how often I pointed it out to idiots (or were they actually agents provocateurs?), it's either Trump (“the Israeli should do it properly this time”) or Harris (Trying to calm down the situation) in the US electoral system.
Sorry, for the Palestinians both options are bad, but one is clearly supporting their genocide, and it's not the Harris.
@Pistolenkind @rrb @Jumpmed @RickiTarr
On that note add SOME Latinos. I'll go ahead and say it CUBANS overwhelmingly helped to elect Trump. Data showed citizens with Mexican, PR, or Central American ties voted Harris.

@Pistolenkind @rrb @Jumpmed @RickiTarr That's 100% true, but it is also true about all of the generalized categories we put people in including white men and white women.
When 75% of a category acts in a particular way, it seems hard for people to recognize the other 25% (which when the category contains millions, is still a large number of people).
What it means is that if you encounter a random someone in that category, there's a 75% chance they're one of the people acting in that particular way. But you should still treat them as an individual and find out which they are.

@Pistolenkind @rrb @Jumpmed @RickiTarr
We lump too many people together and give them a single motivation 😞
Statistically that may work, and it may help political messaging, but I hope we can do better in conversations here.
Getting off my soapbox now.

@mlippert
You're not wrong my dude. It bothers me as well, and it seems something increasingly used also by progressives and the left, whereas in former times it was a mostly right wing thing. Or maybe I was living in a bubble.
@RickiTarr I sure as fuck don't hope they get what they voted for, because they voted for murderous fascism and constant rape threats.
But the other four items? Yeah.
@EvilK @RickiTarr RIGHT???? the founders knew this experiment only worked if the people were educated and informed. Unfortunately at this particular stage in the decline of the American empire, they are neither, and it shows.
and so everyone suffers. sigh.
He told them over and over at his rallies.
Strictly, the converse is ignorance.
The distinction is significant since we know cures for ignorance; whereas stupidity is hard work to improve.
@RickiTarr BUT EGGS ARE SO EXPENSIVE RIGHT NOW!
🙄
@RickiTarr Now they need to learn the things THEY count towards feeling so called inflation, primarily staple items from the grocery or big box stores and eating out isn't inflation, it is greedflation.
I'm not talking about economic policy and theory. I'm talking about average and low informed voter witching about the economy.
While the price of a shopping cart of staple items at Kroger jumped from $100 to $140 or more, their profits increased to record levels.
That's not inflation if the stores pass it on plus a hell of a lot more to customer and take the money out. https://www.commondreams.org/news/kroger-profits
Kroger Executive Admits [to the FTC during hearing ] Company Gouged Prices Above Inflation

Kroger's price gouging to pass on "inflation" to consumers has paid off, earning $466 million in Q2 2024. Its proposed merger with Albertsons faces FTC challenge over fears of a monopoly and job losses. Should consumers pay the price for corporate greed? #CorporateGreed
@paul @RickiTarr Reminds me about the Loblaws/PC brand store boycott recently here in Canada, over prices they’re charging.
… and the day the company put out a statement saying they understand the concerns and will work to keep prices affordable, etc., was *the same day* they sent a release to their shareholders touting how much the company profits had increased.
Turns out FAFO helps no one.
@RickiTarr this will be blamed on everyone else, never themselves, never Trump
You cannot be friends with that and it is wrong to force people to compromise their morals just so Trumpers can stop whining
As in Brexit, many mainstream media began to explain the consequences of choosing Brexit/Trump AFTER the election, not before.
@RickiTarr I imagine that when our economy hits the toilet after the tariffs and the mass deportation of agricultural workers, the MAGA reaction will be to rage against the Democrats for causing the sky-high prices on imports and the collapse of American farming.
Because that's who their dear leader, our incoming felon-in-chief, will tell them caused their economic pain.
@RickiTarr "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."
H. L. Mencken
"Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public."
(I would add intelligence)

"In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for; as for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican."

I'm going to be saying "you wanted this", "you voted for this", etc to a lot of people, aren't I?
Just in case you can't follow US politics well enough, it is easy to spot the fake.
Trump voters never wanted to be friends with leftists and liberals cuz they think leftist and liberals are bad people. They certainly are not mad about it.
Trump voters feel validated in voting for trump when they hear that leftists say things like "I hope you get what's coming for you" cuz that just proves how bad those people are.
Self licking ice cream cones and echo chambers. This meme is comes from the left to make leftist feel better somehow, but doesn't report accurately on what's going on with the right.
I live in a very very red county in a blue state. So a bit of both worlds.
@RickiTarr my schadenfreud wants to believe that, but i'm skeptical it's more than a few people who are already getting up to speed.
But hey, hopefully i'm wrong.
