Why I'm not a baker

Someone: my cooking doesn't taste good
Me: squeeze a lime into it and add a bit of salt
Someone: that worked but how did you know? I didn't even say what I was making

Someone: my bake turned out badly
A baker: check a tide table, if it's high tide you'll need to adjust for the humidity change
Another baker: if it uses chocolate you'll need a graduate degree in chemistry
Yet another baker: <hospitalized because they tried to do anything with molten sugar>

#cooking

@Catfish_Man This is exact and 100% truth.
@Catfish_Man Solar flare activity is high, use this kind of yeast instead.

@Catfish_Man Huh - I just follow the recipe - seems to work. 🤷‍♂️

It does help if I follow my Mother's advice: “read the whole recipe first”.

@Catfish_Man

Amateur baker/chocolatier here.

Can confirm.

@Catfish_Man
Even with recipes the difficulty is wild,, it's like "I want to make cookies that don't crumble", and the recipe is like "churn your own butter" "if you add one extra mL of milk then it will combust" "add 14 cups of sugar", and then you do it and 9 hours later the cookies are done and crumble immediately upon taking them out of the oven, and then you go "fuck it" and make a box cake.
@Catfish_Man more yeast, more sugar, hotter water, and more heat during the rise, and you probably didn't knead it enough or kneaded it too much depending on the type of baked good. it's not *that* bad. chocolate and sugar tho, nope that's for experts
@Catfish_Man I will admit last nights pizza tasting like pretzel is a mystery tho, idk how tf that even happened
@Catfish_Man oh god though the molten sugar thing is real
@vyr but caramel is so good 🥺
@Catfish_Man which is why molten sugar will keep happening to people, including me
