got laid off in the big dropbox layoffs today.

if anybody is looking for a staff-level engineer who loves mentoring and who is an expert in web security, email security, TLS/PKI, key and secrets management, and general defense security stuff, please feel free to hit me up.

@april

Oh no! I'm so sorry! Our work relies on dropbox for everything. It's crazy that they would be letting people go.

@GuyDudeman @april I think a lot of orgs are using one drive due to its integration with the OS.

I’ve tried the paid Dropbox a few times and each time I’ve been unhappy with it for different reasons.

One drive and Google drive have worked much better for me.

@april sorry to hear 😔 we’re looking for someone to be the go-to security person at Forage (like Stripe for EBT) if that interests you (remote!) https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/joinforage/jobs/4097587007

@april I’m really sorry to see they did that to you. Really shocked at how many folks like yourself have been laid off
@april Hello April. With your background you will end up better than before.
@april Oh, that sucks! Sorry to hear it.
@april You should add your physical location (at least country) and a link to your resume/CV to this.
@april where are you located/allowed to work?

@april

I just asked a cloud storage/computing company I know if they're looking for someone. I hope you'll find new employment soon.

@april Something tells me that means my application will be ignored lol (and won't take it if offered now)

@april sorry to hear April :/

If you were in the #Dropbox #layoff today (or just otherwise on the #jobhunt): I’m currently #hiring a Sr. Software Engineer with a strong focus on #Golang/Containerization and several engineers with #DevRel experience. All are remote positions within Americas time zones. If that’s not you, I also offer LinkedIn profile optimization for fedi friends at no charge. Here to help :blobfoxheartcute:

Hachyderm.io

@april That sounds seriously shit. The employment practices of American software businesses are so... impersonally exploitative. Try not to feel personally hurt by it.

I hope you (and all your laid-off colleagues) find something new -- and better -- soon.

@april my Email Threat Research team at Cisco Talos is hiring, remote is okay. I sent you a LinkedIn connect request with my Signal contact (couldn't find a more convenient method).
@april I am so sorry. I kept asking them for a $1 tier. I need to learn all the things you know so I am following you. 🥺💖 🙇‍♀️

Dumb question for you: do you attend DefCon? If so, do you network with your local circle of attendees?

If you are in/near San Jose, I think that you might enjoy this group (that I sadly haven't kept up with well during the pandemic):

If you are willing to work in the south bay, I could widen the scope of my own search to include jobs for you, and occasionally send some leads your way.

@april Don't know if you've seen this, but might be helpful - they are specifically asking people in your position to reach out: https://autistics.life/@aronow@hachyderm.io/113398372350482047

Good luck none the less. Sucks to be laid off - been there myself before - but don't take it to heart.

@april damn. Sorry for you. In your opinion, do those layoffs mean it's better to switch away from Dropbox?
