@CriticalCupcake good illustration there. It's obviously by design... What can I use as a wedge without being on the hook to fix !?

@Bsan3 @CriticalCupcake

I had to read this a bunch of times to figure out this is about the political will to remain blameless and the convenience of inventing a common enemy. (It's a good point!)

@CriticalCupcake so if I have 800.000 of these rooms, that's 320 million people, then there are 800.000 people shot every day? That's crazy. I mean that'd be a lot if it was just per week.

@Rocket @CriticalCupcake

If I'm correct and the 320 million refers to us citizens, a quick Google search gave me this:

"In 2022, there were more than 48,000 firearm-related deaths in the United States according to mortality data. That's about 132 people dying from a firearm-related injury each day."

https://www.cdc.gov/firearm-violence/data-research/facts-stats/index.html

There are approximately 27,000 unintentional firearm injuries and 500 unintentional firearm deaths per year in the U.S. (CDC, 2020).

Firearm Injury and Death Prevention

@jumianr @CriticalCupcake You are awesome! Thank you for doing the research.

You are right. I scaled the room roughly to the size of the US to get a feeling for the numbers.

If we have 48,000 deaths per year, then it'd take 16.6 years for a person in the 400-people-room to get shot to death, not just a day.

@Rocket @CriticalCupcake Well you've got 48000 people dying directly from gun injuries, plus another 27000 injuried by guns, for a total of 75.000 people hit by gunfire per year. 200 gun injuries per day.

75.000 is 0,02% of 320million if my math is not wrong.

1/400 is 0,25, so the numbers are off, yes, but the underlying idea (trans people are a minority, gun violence affects LOTS of people yet everyone makes it seem as if trans preople are the number one issue in the country) still stands.

@Rocket @CriticalCupcake
"Every day, 327 people are shot in the United States. Of those, on average, 117 will die."
This would be roughly one in a million people getting shot each day.

@RnDanger that's far off the 1 in 400 per day in the screenshot. Thank you!

@CriticalCupcake I agree with this (almost) entirely. ❤️  ❤️

The only thing that strikes me is that illiteracy number, at over 21%. I know this is a meme from somewhere that didn't cite its sources, but It would interesting to know where that number came form.

Literacy Statistics 2024- 2025 (Where we are now)

The capacity to read and write, commonly known as literacy, stands out as a pivotal determinant in shaping an individual's career trajectory. Individuals with literacy skills have access to a broad spectrum of career possibilities, including highly skilled and well-paying positions. Conversely, those lacking literacy face severely restricted options, with even entry-level, low-skilled jobs posing challenges to secure.Globally, the overall literacy rate stands at a commendable level. @CriticalCupcake everyday, 1 in 400 people get shot?

@Kroppeb @CriticalCupcake

SURE. One death a day means 365 of the 400 in a year.

.....Wait a minute...do you think some of the numbers are for the purpose of a meme, but being so crassly wrong, will backfire and cause people to disbelieve every single assertion in the meme, even if some of it was correct.

@Kroppeb @CriticalCupcake

Yeah, that one caught me too. I was able to verify some of the others pretty quickly. They are accurate for the United States, so I'm assuming the "shot" number is supposed to be USA as well. Actual number per day is about 1 per 1,000,000:

@CriticalCupcake Aren't these 2 already included in those 90 untreated mental illnesses?
@Mac_CZ @CriticalCupcake no, but they're probably the most likely to be the ones shot
@Mac_CZ @CriticalCupcake ok Mr “godot has gone insane for supporting queer people in the most minimal way possible”
@[email protected] @CriticalCupcake even if you think that (screw you), you seem to be implying that it's ok to ruin the lives of the mentally ill
@CriticalCupcake It's all a distraction... gotta keep the MAGA base inflamed and afraid so they don't see what's happening to them.
@CriticalCupcake You are just talking about the US presumably.
@JoCzechowska To some extent, the same shit is happening in Canada. It's not as widespread, but a bunch our right-wing politicians are attacking trans people instead of concentrating on the real problems facing us.

@CriticalCupcake 1 is shot is bullshit.
After 1 year almost all were dead.

Get your number right before ***Ing on the internet

@CriticalCupcake so the argument evolves like this: there are a lot of unfair differences in a society, therefore one just should ignore them and do nothing at all.
Transrights are fundamental human rights. And you northamericans sould figure out how a basic walfare state works: Everybody in Germany has a health insurance, while only 7% have problems with reading longer textes. Universities are also free in Germany. Also 70 deaths due to firearms PER YEAR (0,000085% of our people)
@CriticalCupcake @jonquass Okay.This isn't a solve for X problem. This is a getting rid of bastards problem, because the goal should be to treat these trans folks.
@CriticalCupcake to be fair, we (not me personally, but you know, as a society) also put quite a bit of emphasis of fucking up the lives of ppl in poverty or with a mental illness 🤣😂🙂🥲😐️☹️
