Mastodawn

I made it back up to the Nantahala National Forest this past weekend. The leaves were not yet in full swing, but they were beautiful all the same.

I did not see a trout. The fish in the photo is a rosyside dace (a minnow). It ate a size 18 wet fly.

I like those little rosysides 😊
I caught several when I visited Shenandoah. I needed looked it up when I caught them 😉

@enog I have seen them in this watershed before. I used to confuse them with the warpaint shiner, which I often catch in GA.

When I got a rosyside, I thought it was a tiny rainbow trout until I saw it close by 😅 I never seen warpaint shiner, looks like a Southern species 🤔
