Look, if you make less than $400K a year, Kamala Harris is not going to raise your taxes. Period.

And if you make more than $400K…

Congratulations! You're doing great. And you can afford to pitch in a bit more for the public good.

@rbreich To the greedy and selfish,sharing is an evil word.
@rbreich whatever happened to the flat tax? Same rate for everyone takes the class bias out of the equation
@MrMuffin @rbreich because it is regressive. It would raise taxes on the majority of wage earners and cut taxes again for the wealthy
@BLTpizza @rbreich tbh, since the wealthy can do much to avoid taxes, I don’t see how a flat tax will lower their rates.
@BLTpizza @rbreich I get your points. Seems a minimum tax for the wealthy makes the most sense and has already been proposed
@MrMuffin @rbreich It really doesn’t remove that bias at all. Tax 20% from a minimum wage earner, and they might end up homeless. Tax 20% from someone like me with a cushy tech job and it doesn’t do much.
@MrMuffin @rbreich while at it, let's make everyone earn the same amount, this will certainly take bias out of the equation.
Or even better, simply make sure _everyone_ *gets* the same amount of money.
@rbreich 50% of people think they are in the top 1% of income earners.

@rbreich

"Ironically pure Capitalism fails for the same reason as pure Socialism.

They both depend upon the better angels of human nature, which often do not appear.

Capitalism depends upon the rich being fair and just even if they don't have to, and Socialism depends upon people working even if they don't have to.

Neither is realistic, or in concert with human nature. The only answer is a combination of both, where market forces are allowed to thrive so long as they're fair and just to the working and poor."

The rich should pay their fair share towards the genocide of Gaza

@StryderNotavi @rbreich

Dude, if you have nothing to say, don't bother saying it.

@Captain_Jack_Sparrow @rbreich How about this.

Gaza may be an atrocity, but it's not a reason we shouldn't raise taxes to pay for healthcare education and many other things that might he socially beneficial.

I didn't think there was anyone foolish enough to need that spelled out for them, and yet here we are.

@rbreich More people need to know this.

@rbreich She could mine if she significantly changes business taxes. The QBI is going to expire soon for example. Maybe already did? Could add up to a couple hundred or more a month. She can let stuff expire or change the deductions I can take. She's doing that startup thing, but I'm not a startup...startups are kinda iffy to me anyway.

So far her plans all seem like they'll probably help me or be like whatever, but she could increase my burden easily. I'm barely above not getting any help

Advertising, fear mongering, disinformation disseminated by neoliberal #AtlasNetwork and affiliates. The ideology that our world & society is to be exploited for the insanely wealthy few, via whatever government can be trusted to comply. Which is apparently most of them #politics #election2024
@rbreich tax mega yachts and private jets. tax mega pastors and private equity.
@rbreich to be fair, billionaires like Jeff Bozos and Elongated Musket should be taxed a lot, because they don't do shit for the public good, and they always find loopholes
@rbreich Hopefully Kamala will sign you up after November. Or maybe she already has?
@rbreich gleiches trifft auf die “Diskussion” in Österreich bzgl. Vermögenssteuer zu. Jemand der 60k verdient glaubt, ihm wird alles genommen. 🙄
@rbreich most two-income households don't make even a quarter of that.

@rbreich I wish I had that "problem".

Just happy to health insurance again.
