I’ve seen Apple’s new “Submerged” immersive ~17-minute short film for the Vision Pro. As well as the making of.

• I want all action movies to be like this
• This is the kind of interest I want Apple to show in the platform
• Why was *every* AVP on set sporting the Developer Strap? 🤔

If you have a Vision Pro, watch it, posthaste.

@caseyliss I did and it was awesome! More more more! I did not reget my $3,500 purchase while i was on that submarine!
@caseyliss your use of AVP at that point talking about a short film on the Vision Pro made me think of Alien vs Predator and I think I would die if they made an Alien movie to be watched in the Vision Pro
@caseyliss you use the AVP developer strap to get the camera data OUT of the AVP to where it will be assembled, no? I’d say the question is why would any AVP on the set be going WITHOUT the developer strap?
@Chancerubbage They’re not using AVPs as the cameras

@caseyliss why would you wear them on set if not for real time i/o?

I’d suppose they are viewing the larger immersive cameras. Maybe one guy in the corner is using CallSheet or running an egg timer, but I can’t imagine a production crew NOT having the developer straps on their production goggles.

@Chancerubbage it’s to review, as you said

@caseyliss I guess time will ultimately tell, but I’m sure that the dozens of you that own an AVP kind of appreciate that Apple actually has announced upcoming content.

I know that not everything is interesting to everyone, but it’s better than nothing, right?

@caseyliss Rank speculation:

Developer strap means everyone isn’t trying to shove video over very crowded air space in a small area?

Wish I could watch the short.

@caseyliss More of these, please, Apple!
@caseyliss why do you need more than 2 hours of battery when the content is only 17 minutes
@caseyliss Fine I’ll take it out for the first time since July when I installed visionOS 2 Beta 1 on it, update it, update all the apps, and watch the short film. . . We’ll see what happens after that
@caseyliss This is why I don't understand the tech press's current obsession with AR Glasses. These are two separate product categories. You'll never achieve that level of immersion without a fully enclosed headset, and any company that doesn't release a cheaper version of the Vision Pro purely for media consumption is leaving money on the table. Especially when they crack live sports broadcasting. Which is the nailed on killer App for this product.
@caseyliss seems like the Developer Strap is their way of transforming AVP from “consumption” to “creation” device?
@caseyliss Good catch on the Developer Straps! I missed that.
@caseyliss brb, charging my Vision Pro...
@caseyliss agreed, it’s really well done. Regarding the developer straps - often wifi conditions on set can be challenging, particularly if wireless video devices like the teradeks are being used. It’s likely to have a more reliable way to transfer media over to the headsets.

@caseyliss Wi-Fi congestion is real. Even in call centers where people are just doing zoom calls on a row of iPads I've seen they are all on ethernet

What I don't get is why AVP doesn't just have USB-C like every other headset

@caseyliss I don't think you realized that Messi has been out, injured, for at least 2 months of this years MLS season.
