Pensacola NC may be one of those tiny communities that got washed away. Very low ground in a river valley, and the river dominates that valley in the Pensacola area even under normal conditions, with multiple branches snaking through it and even a bunch of marshy ponds formed to hold the water.
Nearby community on a creek feeding the river, with similar topography: https://x.com/JudgeBobOrr/status/1840136256690196951/photo/1

No direct reports for Pensacola - probably still cut off.
This is the road going from Pensacola, very near the town of Burnsville. There's also a much longer and much windier road following a ridge going out to Barnardsville from Pensacola, but it's guaranteed to be covered with downed trees and/or landslides.

The Burnsville Hub facebook page is public now. A lot of roads wiped out, including ones going toward Pensacola. Someone there said a helicopter pilot landed: "Said no one knew about Pensacola and it was one of the worst hit he’s seen in WNC. There are a lot of people helping."

Locals say helicopters have been very active in the Cattail Creek area as of nearly 24 hours ago, which is up the smaller branch that feeds into the river in Pensacola NC. People are getting airlifted out from Cattail Creek, so no doubt they're be paying attention to Pensacola and upstream areas of Cane River too.

Does anyone have any info about the this area of Deep Gap rd in cattail creek? My grandmas house is the first house on the left when you turn onto Deep Gap rd. I’ve been on this page all day for the...
A view of "downtown" Pensacola (two churches and a tiny general store) over the past few days: https://www.facebook.com/seth.edwards.940/posts/pfbid05RrsKRtM6vD4dhhfnz6UMKJaPqWuGxUeiZzYbFb3kqNrCTs1Lr5jdVU8GfpWqUatl

I wasn't sure from the video (the camera person might have standing it front of it, but the general store near the churches is definitely gone.
The photo is in an album with more before-and-after shots of the region: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=2941732119318182&set=pcb.1609729786304160

From the Asheville subreddit:
"From Ham Radio - Mt. Mitchell repeater EOC
SUPPLIES AVAILABLE IN BURNSVILLE AT PENSACOLA FIRE STATION
From Ham operator Byron - There are supplies available at the Pensacola Fire Station.
They have received the first delivery of supplies via helicopter, 4 wheeler, and side by side. People are encouraged to come get supplies, as needed.
There is a route in to Burnsville via ATV, but that is the only route in currently to the Pensacola area."
https://www.reddit.com/user/sittingbulloch/ is providing regular updates regarding what they're hearing via the Mt. Mitchell EOC radio repeater, including from a lot of isolated communities where rescues and evacuations are still underway.
That Reddit user doesn't have the capacity to send any info via ham radio into that area.
