My relatives in rural #Yancey county #NorthCarolina just got cellphone service. (Yay!)
Roads are still a mess, one lane washed away in many places. Easier to get through with ATV’s than regular vehicles.
Lots of folks in #Burnsville right now, both the displaced and aid workers. About triple the normal population of 1600.
The post office in #Micaville is totally gone.
https://www.reddit.com/user/sittingbulloch/ is providing regular updates regarding what they're hearing via the Mt. Mitchell EOC radio repeater, including from a lot of isolated communities where rescues and evacuations are still underway.
That Reddit user doesn't have the capacity to send any info via ham radio into that area.
I wasn't sure from the video (the camera person might have standing it front of it, but the general store near the churches is definitely gone.

- Many bridges washed out so only limited travel possible.
- Local construction crews are clearing roads where possible.
- Fallen trees and debris are stacked up 10 feet high along the banks of most rivers and streams.
