I wish someone had the resources to pitch Mastodon to all the great people leaving The Dead Bird.
@randahl "and thanks for all the fish" Sorry, just fan of "A Hichhikert Guide to the Galaxy"
@randahl I tried for a while, but I'm shadowbanned over there, because I haven't wasted enough time feeding the machine πŸ™„
@randahl Looks like that didn't last long.
@randahl I'm just thinking how bad things must be over there if John Cleese is now leaving!
@randahl twitter is the worst social network site
@konakona @randahl truth social world like a word
@randahl
John Cleese a bit of a mixed bag
@randahl With his recent anti-woke statements, Cleese would be banned or fediblocked within a few days of joining Mastodon. Let Zuck’s Casino have him.
@randahl I don't need to block John Cleese here as well
@randahl Sure they have a certain gravitas and influence, but I like the regular people here. More interesting and I know for certain it is not written by a PR agent.
@randahl Most celebrities are actually as dull as everyone else, I don't miss them in coming here.
I prefer talking to interesting people rather than be a star fucker.
We had Neil Gaiman here for a bit and look how he turned out....😬
@randahl Amazing how owners seem to be doing own damages πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€ͺπŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ₯Έ
@randahl Better, someone with resources buys Twitter(X) and returns it to a decent social platform. Users only stop using it, they'll come back wirh new owner.
@Randahl Fink i get the impression that the fediverse is not really vip-friendly. so cleese might be totally misplaced here. celeb accounts don't get boosted automatically in the fediverse. there is no way you can grow a follower base by making bots like your posts. and you really are expected to interact! @Cory Doctorow seems to be doing fine with this, also other authors like @Charlie Stross . but celebs like @JeriLRyan started and gave up. and, what is even worse, you can't measure your reach within the fediverse so it's not valuable from a marketing point of view.

from some minor vip like the german creator of "bernd, das brot" ( @Tommy Krappweis  ) i read that they felt mistreated by the nerdy communication culture in mastodon.

but there's a world without celebs, so they should go wherever they please ... :-)

@randahl put musk era aside,THERE IS A REASON THEY WERE ON TWITTER. The refusal to accept the positive things about it, the ease of use answers your question. Personally I dont understand what is so hard about reinventing that wheel. You condemn twitter users and expect them to respect your invitation
