LOL this tho ๐Ÿ˜‚

@britt Here in Germany we have a podcast called "Nicht witzig" (which translates to "Not Funny") where the autistic host sits down with a different comedian each episode and talks about humor with them:

Really cool project! Sadly, only available in German, though...

@njamster oh thatโ€™s such a fun idea! I am casually learning German and would enjoy watching it, Iโ€™m sure. Iโ€™ll keep an eye out, hopefully I can watch it one day.
@njamster @britt I've downloaded the trailer and the first episode, let's see :)
I'm mostly able to follow "Europa heute" from Deutschlandfunk (on 80% speed) so it's worth it to give this a go.
@njamster @britt Dieser Podcast sieht mich sehr toll an. Danke fรผr den Link.
@njamster @britt
Thank you for the link!

@njamster
I just saw the first video with Marti Fischer and during the entire video I was like "I don't know but he gives me massive ADHD vibes... and in the last 5 minutes he says something about ADHD-Hyperfocus and I was like YESS! I KNEW IT!!" ๐Ÿ˜…

Thank you for that playlist. Now I have to watch them all.
@britt

@britt Younger son, autistic, often wicked sense of humor. Seems developed it to put up with his mom who has depression & also diagnosed as paranoid, bad memory issues, difficult to deal with. Most of the time he deals well, but sometimes very negative.

@britt Yes! This!

I love puns and silly jokes. But most "story-based" jokes are so illogical and dumb that they just aren't funny to me. I often find myself asking "huh, but why would they do that? It doesn't make sense" and generally people look at me quite puzzled then.

Many "jokes" are also outright racist/sexist and aren't funny at all.

@britt @AnAutieAtUni Some of the funniest people I know are autistic or AuDHD! Didnโ€™t know this was a thing! ๐Ÿค”
@britt we're just not neurotypical enough to "politely" pretend-laugh
@britt True, but sometimes it is hurtful for the joketeller to be confronted wirh the blunt truth. It can feel disheartening. So there are occasions where you need to be a good liar - if you care for the person, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰
@britt BREAKING: Autistic people don't necessarily feel a socially mandated requirement to laugh at other people's jokes!
@britt I have an Aspie friend who doesn't find ANY standup comedians funny.
@sqgl @britt well they arenโ€™t
@mirabilos @britt They aren't to you but clearly are to most of society. Are you Aspie?
@sqgl @britt perhaps a bit, but I know people who definitely are more on the spectrum and find them funny, so maybe itโ€™s just my more refined humour?
@britt God, way too many goddamn people do not understand that "It's just a joke!" does not magically make it funny. And it's always from people who believe that punching down at disadvantaged/underprivileged people counts as comedy. ๐Ÿ˜’
@dragonarchitect @britt Dennis Miller had a promising career in comedy until he went solo. Then he discovered no one laughs at punching down. Same with Victoria Jackson.
@britt my goto scentence in that Situation: โ€žI believe you overestimate how funny you are.โ€œ
@britt yeah, we understand the jokes, we just only laugh at the funny ones!
@britt that awkward moment when people realize they've been humored all this time and are finally meeting a real one.
If it's not funny I don't laugh. If it is funny, I laugh on the inside.
@britt I've never understood why some people laugh at jokes that are stupid. I looked into it a few years ago. We do not participate in "social interaction" laughter. The joke actually has to be funny not have some jackass laughing loudly.
eg. https://www.psychologytoday.com/au/blog/women-autism-spectrum-disorder/202109/do-people-autism-have-sense-humor
"Do People With Autism Have a Sense of Humor?"

Despite stereotypes suggesting they lack a sense of humor, autistic people enjoy jokes and can be quite funny. Yet they may, at times, engage with and display humor in different ways.

@Dianora @britt and then there's the masking behaviour I managed to pick up where I laugh at anything because I've just learned that people laugh for no reason. Although I'm slowly unlearning this
@britt that, but also often they require too much โ€œculturalโ€ context to be understood
