Some wisdom from a Japanese gamer. As a designer I thought about it in the context of UX. But, really, it can be applied to most any challenge in life.

@markwyner second may actually allow for more paths than the first, despite looking "scarier"

@root good point. I can think of some techniques for that. 😂
@markwyner I think the second *is* harder. You have less references points moving relative to Mario that you can use to judge where you are.
@markwyner i didn't check and i'm sure 8 other people said this, but if you're going the right speed forward as you fall i think you could make it between the last and second-last set of blocks to the floor there.
@markwyner
Quite sure you could get under the last blocks on the right image
@markwyner a lot less wall jumping potential in second one
@markwyner Nitpick: it's not the same for the last one, but yeah, I get the point. :p
@markwyner @maestrapaladin I really don't understand the difference between those two. Could you give me hint what the difference is supposed to be?

@daniel oh, sure.

It's interesting. The quote included "easy to understand," though some folks have a hard time with it. I'm neurodivergent so I understand.

Anyway, our brains can factor in variables that amplify emotions. The first frame is solid columns of steps and tiny holes. The risk seems low. The second frame offers the exact same path, but with a sea of emptiness below it. That can make it seem scarier, even though it's the same.

@markwyner oh I see! Thanks a lot for explaining! I’ve seen this image a few times already and I’ve always been puzzled what the difference is supposed to be.
@daniel awesome! I’m glad you asked, and happy I could help.
