For a while, events were accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Now most of them are inaccessible again because they're held in-person with no COVID precautions and no more hybrid events. People with disabilities and people who are COVID-aware are being excluded again. It's easier for organizers to pretend that we don't exist, and this makes me very bitter. #SafeSpaces #accessibility #Covid #conferences #convention #conventions #disability

There's a local (Waterloo Region) arts organization which offers a paid mentorship. I'd apply, but they stipulate participants must show up to their office in person each week. No one there wears masks. They have claimed on several occasions that the pandemic is over and that the online events they held in 2020 "didn't count." This was extremely dismissive for those of us who were grateful to be able to participate and be included.

Their in-person stipulation is exclusionary. I am very disappointed in their decision. It doesn't have to be that way. I'd even be ok with meeting outside, but that's not part of their plan. #accessibility #disability #arts @waterlooregion

There was a civic election a while back and I kept getting invited to town halls. I spoke with representatives over the phone letting them know these events were inaccessible for me. They offered to give me a ride, but they wouldn't offer to have hybrid or masked events. They chose to ignore that people with health concerns will not feel safe or welcome. I voted anyway, but with a bitter taste knowing that none of the people in office give a shit about COVID mitigation. #accessibility #TownHall #CdnPoli #covid #disability @waterlooregion
